All you active Ebayers...

...should know the answer.

Just browsing through auction sites and noticed that a certain make of amplifier, the seller says: "Free room otimisation worth £70"

What does this actually mean or is it another sales ploy?

Craig M.:what's the make? could mean free microphone and software.

This one, Craig.

It also says: "Free 5 year warranty worth £45.00" "Free room optimisation worth £70" and "Free delivery"

It strikes me as a bit of an elaborate scam...

well, 5 yr warranty and free delivery aren't to be sniffed at. not sure who they normally sell that warranty to though, as it's free with every new purchase (according to their website).

i think the above shout about wall panels could be right, they sell some in their shop. wouldn't have thought 70 quids worth would optimise your room that much.

still, if the price is competitive, i'd rather have the freebies, then not.

Thanks, Craig. No the warranty and free delivery I haven't got a problem with, but unless you have a dedicated listening room, who would want those panels plastered over a living or dining room?

All that is is a service from them when you bye the amp. Give them your room dim's and set up (sofa placement etc) and they will optimise your listening room for you. Its not to be sniffed at and it's free service which would take anyone normally an hour or so to do them self's.

I'd be very surprised if anyone could optimise a room based purely on room dimensions and the position of a sofa. Make suggestions, maybe, but optimise...?

You sound enthusiastic - have you had this done?

They probably mean speaker placement/listening position, furnishings. I cant see them coming round spending time spending time checking frequency responses etc, maybe they do but that service would cost a lot more than £70 wouldn't it?

Yes i am enthusiastic and i would like it done as my place is a nightmare sonically it's 28x14 with a vaulted roof space and stone floors. I had a play around with speaker placement and seating position the other day through a link from another post here which gave me better depth but i still find the bass a tad light and it sounds a bit cave like. Basically i think i need some big floor standers to fill the space better but a proper room optimisation would be good.

plastic penguin:As I clearly don't need my room optimising or extended warranty, I wonder whether he would deduct those figures from the 'Buy it Now' price? Mmm, could be an interesting experiement...

If they are 'free' then I doubt it.

Room optimising using the Room Perfect in my amp was extremely worthwhile. If this is software and microphone for use with a laptop it may be useful ,if you are good with computers! Probably very fiddly though.
