Advice On Surround Sound System Please

Hi,

I am currently in the process of trying to find a Surround Sound System for my living room which aint very big, ide say a standard size, i have seen a few i like but im a newbie when it comes to things like this as i just think the one with most Wattage is best.

I have a budget of around £200 - £230 at present but may stretch depending on what ppl may suggest. I have a 32" LCD TV then a Sky Box and a Xbox 360 all of which i would want to connect to Surround Sound.

I have previously been looking at the below Item but have since had doubts going off various reviews on other products.

I have also been looking at these systems but im now undecided as to which i want or which may be best for me so some advice or pointing in the right direction would be great.

Hi and thanks for the quick reply, without saying to much, basically you and well many others think that this is the best system for the money? but when this review was taken out were the systems i mentioned included for example that JVC one? there is something about it i like but its only 350w

So many systems, so little time - no, we tested the LG against other Sony and Samsung systems (and a Panasonic). Again, we've tested several JVC surround systems, but not this particular model, i'm afraid.

Please don't get too hung up with wattage figures for such systems, by the way, as they're no meaningful indicator of performance.

all the systems mentioned all have good reviews, i guess its personal preference and what other ppl may suggest or recommened, i wont get caught up in wattage figures. Will have a look more at that LG model and go from there.

also forgot to ask, will there be sufficient plugs for me to connect what i have said?

The LG has both optical audio inputs (ideal for your X-Box's surround sound, if I remember the console's outputs socketry correctly) and analogue audio connections (fine for standard Sky - that'll sort your TV sound).

Incidentally, the LG (as does many modern systems of this time) also includes USB and 3.5mm mini jack connections - allowing you to easily playback your MP3 player (and digital camera pics) via the system.

thanks again for the reply, sounds like its everything im after then, looks nice, seems to be reviewed well and connects everything i need, only thing i noticed is the subwoofer is one hell of a size isnt it

Fortunately its subwoofer doesn't need to be in line of sight - you can tuck it away somewhere!

oh thats good then, so is there sufficient wire to for example stick it behind a sofa or somewhere out of sight

Sorry, but I can't remember exactly how long the sub cable was, but it wasn't a really short one (like, say, on the Sony DAV-IS10, where the sub needs to be near the front speakers).

There's not a length mentioned on LG's website, either - why not check with a retailer before you buy?

i will, i am going to empire direct today just to have a look at the model you mentioned and see what its like then ill buy online as im sure it will be cheaper, just need to find cheapest 😛

had a look at the LG today and it looks quite nice, the sub is massive lol but the sound coming out of an older model sounded good so im sure the new one will sound better, does anyone have any views or opinions on the Sony HTSS1100 as ive been drawn to this and its excellent reviews

on the laksys site it says the model is LG HT902PB but the review is TB? are they different :s if so is the PB still the one to get?
