Advice on Fitting CPUs to Motherboards

Apart from gettting someone else to do it....

I've messed up more than my fair share of motherboards (the LGA2011 types being my least favourite) where the pins stick up from the motherboard and you have to fit the CPU over them and then push down two levers on either side of the CPU to lock the CPU onto the pins.

I keep bending the pins over, desite following the instructions to the letter. I've tried with and without the plastic cover kept in place, one lever first, then the other, all to no avail. Every flipping (ahem) time I bend the pins.

The only idea I have is to try pushing down both levers simulateously to try and spread the load more evenly.

Any tips before I wreck another board?

I usually push the CPU gently down with my fingers to ensure it is located correctly, before using the levers to lock it in place.

The CPU only fits one way round to check it carefully first.

Not sure then. I've fitted quite a few (20 or so) and never broken any.

Can you attach a picture of the offending CPU and board mount?
