I have been considering buying the Denon DVD2500BT to replace my Panasonic BD50, I would like to know your thoughts on this device.

Also how musical is it, I have an aging Denon CDP and wonder if this would be a resonable replacement.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Michael,

I have a Denon 2500BT & i personally think it's well worth the upgrade over the Panny especially for the price you can get it for now.

And the 2500BT CD performance is very good but not brilliant, id say its CD performance is in the region of a £200 to £300 dedicated CDP.

Fantastic choice!

Denon has a real winner with this. I'm so tempted to get one myself

What you waiting for Evilwolf? Take it from me , its brilliant, even its DVD playback is some of the best ive seen.

Thanks Jase Fox

I do not listen to a lot of CD's these days, it is mainly movies and DVD / Blu ray music (5.1 etc).

Do you know how the firmware is upgraded on the Denon.

Yes Michael, you can download it & burn it to CD-R from the Denon website, just follow instructions & away you go.

Incidently Denon are bringing out new firmware anytime now which is version 1.119.

Sounds good to me, id be surprised if you're not impressed with it!

The denon spanks the panasonic big time. You will love it mate!

Go with the Denon.....it's a fine piece of kit. Also, treat yourself to a 60" tv at the same time. It'll look even better!

I think my misses is getting me one (I think she's already got it)for my 40th next month. Fingers crossed.

I acknowledge I'm in the minority, but if I had my choice again I wouldn't buy the Denon DVD-2500BT. Also owning a budget Sony BDP-S350, I don't think the improvements over this player warrant the extra money. I honestly can't hear that much improvement in sound and at normal viewing distances can't see over £400 worth of improvement in the picture. Yes it's got better sound and picture, but not by that much in my opinion.

With regard to the sound difference, it's been pointed out that my Monitor Audio BR speakers won't highlight the differences as much as better speakers could, but the sound's going through an Onkyo 905 once award winning top of the range amp. As for the viewing, well I think you should notice the difference to it's full potential on a Pioneer plasma.

I came very close to boxing it up and putting it on eBay a few days ago, but decided I'd lose too much money now so I've stuck with it.

Hi Jase.

Just thought i would let you know, I had a demo of the Denon on Tuesday and bought it, you were right to say that this is an improvement over the panasonic.

Picture is sharper and the sound flows more, base not as booming with Blu Ray music, I have not altered anything on the amp.

I think that I will re calibrate my TV and see if anything has changed using the Denon over the Panasonic.

Thanks once again.

Cool, im pleased your happy with it. The first thing about the denon that i noticed when i first got it was how much sharper, clearer & cleaner the PQ was.

As for the audio that also blew me away, have you got all the settings set up right on the Denon Michael? All the settings on the Denon i left them at there default settings apart from the BD Audio Mode, if you press the "setup" button on the remote control it takes you straight into the QUICK menu there you will see the BD Audio Mode (it's the first one) go to that & change it from the default setting of "mix audio output" to "HD Audio Output" as this setting streams the primary audio which will either be True HD or DTS Master Audio.

If you havnt already done this try it & youll find it's much better.

Jase.

Still playing with it but yes I have changed the sound setting, played a disc with default settings initially and noticed the HD light did not come on on the amp, so i found this setting changed it and now it does light up to show HD sound is being used and does sound better.

Need to read the manual and check everything out, will have more time at the weekend.

Hi Guys,

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I've just invested in the Denon recently and I'm thrilled to bits with it. The only issue I have is that it won't play my region 1 DVD's. I have been in contact with the dealer but they are apprently waiting on Denon for a disc that can enable the player to be multiregion. Does anybody know of a link that I can update from or a code for the remote?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Faizal,

I heard this to a while ago now & that it,s only going to be region 1 through future firmware.

There is a new firmware due anytime soon version 1.119 so maybe this could be it, i havnt seen exactly what this new firmware does yet, so its a case of just waiting im afraid. Personally im not bothered about going region 1 anyway i used to years ago with DVD but not anymore.

Jase.

Sorry to bother you, not sure if I am being stupid, but could you tell me how to find the current firmware version of my 2500 BT.

I am sure it is not in the manual and I cannot see anything on the menu.

Hi,

On the remote type 9, 8, 7, 6 & then the pop up menu button. This brings up the firmware update page, the current firmware is in the top right corner

Good luck. I have one also and it is fantastic!

Hi guys and girls,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm looking at treating myself to a blue-ray player, and having read the thread on the Denon DVD-2500BT vs the DVD-2930, I'm sold on the SD DVD upscaling side of things. I don't actually own and Blue-ray discs yet, but I don't want to be a stick in the mud and would like to start building my collection. I'm not interested in BD-Live etc... so profile 1.1 players aren't a problem.

I currently have a Panasonic Full HD 32" LCD and will be getting (in a couple of weeks time) either a Denon AVR-2310 or an Onkyo TX-NR807. Still undecided but I'm leaning towards Denon at the moment as it seams to be the better ballanced and more of an all-rounder.

Anyway, back on topic:

My only question is how long are the load times on the 2500BT? I've never had the chance to play with one so I'm a little in the dark. Also, do these load times apply to normal SD Dvd's as well as Blue-ray discs?

I'm sure people like Jase and Davo2008 will have pretty good 1st hand experience with this. It's not a major stumbling block as I'm more interested in the performance, but I'd just like to have an idea what I'm getting myself in for.

Also, have any of the resent firmware updates yielded any positive results with regards to time etc...

Thank you in advance for all your help.

Kind regards,

Simon

Hi.

The Denon 2500BT is a excellent BDP, Jase has had his longer than I have.

The upscaling IMHO is very good, but like anything else, only as good as it's source. I have some superbit DVD's and these are as good as Blu ray on this machine (obviously not HD sound). See if you can demo one, there are some good prices around at the moment.

Load times vary from disc to disc, and some on here will slate it for the load times, Some of my discs are as quick on this player as they are on my brothers DVD player, yes some are slow ish, but a small price to pay for such a excellent BDP.

Out of interest. can the update be installed via the SD card attached?

I'm very happy with mine

although I only upgraded from ps3

It takes quite a while to load a BD, but worth the wait IMO.
