Advice for brothers hi fi

My brother has my old NAD C320 which is still a great little amp, his source is usually the laptop and the speakers are Mission M70

Now firstly the room is very small, stands just aren't an option, but are some shelves better than others? because that is where the speakers will have to sit.

I'd go for something made of granite if the walls can take it.

I'd avoid glass at all costs because it has a tendency to introduce unwanted boom.
