Recently went a audio shop in Cambridge and ask them to show me what a decent sound system would sound like and I was blown away.

The guy in there suggested that the first step I take is to get some decent quality digital music. I have lots of MP3's of all different quality's.

Was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on any software for uprating existing music? if that can be done. Any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated! Sorry if the subject has be repeated about a billion times!

There is nothing you can do to improve digital files, that's not to say that there's anything wrong in the first place. Well recorded material can sound fine at 128Kbps for example, the sound quality increases as the bitrate does, but at some point any differences will become indistinguishable from the actual source file, ie CD.

The key to any playback software (media players) is to have them setup so as to interfere with the music as little as possible, unecessary processing is generally not desired.

Some software to consider:

Foobar, JRiver and iTunes are the most popular. With the first and last being free.
