I have just dug my old turntable out from storage and want to connect it to my recently purchased Arcam A32. Acouple of questions:-

The belt needs replacing - anyone know where I can find one of these in the uk - i quick look on t'internet suggests I may have to order from the USA?

I could not get a sound from it when I connected the turntable. I had assumed the A32 had a phono stage fitted as standard - am I wrong about this?

No, you are correct.

Thanks guys. I wonder what the problem is then?

Thanks for the link JD - thats quite a bit cheaper than the one I found. Much appreciated.

I am itching to hear the thing in with the A32 as it always sounded better than cd with my old amp. cant put my finger on what - it just had more life, a more immediate sound. I dont suppose anyone on here has one of these as they're an eighties turntable and a bit of a relic now.

I've got an EB101, just plumbed it in after years of sitting around collecting dust. It has a Roksan Chrous Blue cartridge, and after replacing the belt (off Ebay 🙂 all works fine. Have been playing some 80/90's records though my X-P100/X-A200/ES14s. Really not a bad sound for an 18 year old hifi.

Have your tried a different cartridge? I'm no expert, but I would think the electrical connection between cartridge and pre-amp is pretty simple ie just wires. So assuming the pre-amp phono input is working, it should be straight forward to check the electrical connectivity beyween the TT leads that plug into the cartridge, and the other end of the cable that goes into the pre-amp. Then you should be able to narrow down the problem - faulty pre-amp, fault TT wiring or faulty cartridge. It has to be one of them.
