I'll start by saying what i have at present. sky plus (out of contract), virgin >8mb BB (out of contract and have MAC code valid til the 12th) and a BT line with a number that isnt important to me.

i cant get cable where i am so i was thinking of getting the free sky BB and simply saving myself 17.50/month.

but shall i upgrade to HD for another 10 pound a month and still save 7.50?

this is probably a stupid question but does the sky BB come down the phone line or can i get rid of it once the sky is installed?

another stupid question, does BBC1 HD show all the same channels all day, with the only difference that some of them are broadcast in HD? or are they ALL shown in HD?

cheers, i dont know what i'd do without this forum.

thanks,

so am i right in thinking yu really need all the hd channels to make it worth your while? therefore costing much more than 10 pounds.

at present i am on the 21 pound sky plus deal but have recently got the movies which is another 16 pounds.

so sky hd with all but the sports is about 47 quid.

had anyone had probs with the SKY BB?

The £10 Sky HD subscription only allows you to access the HD equivalent of channels in you current Sky package.
If you don't subscribe to the sports option (for instance) you don't get the HD sport channels, though whether this is a loss depends on how much sport you watch.

I have both Sky sports and Movies and for me the £10 subscription is good value, but if you don't take the full Sky package then paying the extra £10 is not as good value although it may still be worthwhile.

As you only currently take have Sky Movies you should compare the cost of an HD box and subsciption against the cost of a Blu-ray player and a rental Subsciption to Lovefilm who have a range of Blu-ray titles, as this route may offer better value for you.
When I made this decision last year the £300+ cost of a Blu-ray player and the relative lack of software made Sky HD an easy choice, now it's not so clear cut.

thanks for things to consider, advice etc.

i have signed up for sky broadband. 8gb for 5 pounds. 25 pounds set up fee.

i hope the BB is good. total bill now is 43/month for all the mixes, movies and internet.

the money we waste on tv is unbelievable to me but i cant help it. i'll see what deals sky come out with for HD at xmas. i can see them dropping the 10/month as they diid with sky +.
