Interesting additional reasons to consider CDs, although I thought streaming would have been the most environmentally friendly option. Mind you, it does not sound as if the formula is likely to be as simple as stated: if 5 hrs streaming equates to 1 CD in carbon emission then it also depends how many CDs you would need to buy to get the same tracks as streamed in, say, a 5 hr playlist, as well as how often you play the same CD.
In respect of the age-old vinyl vs. digital debate, I have always considered contemporary vinyl as also involving a digital to analogue conversion, only further upstream (during the cutting of the record master) rather than it happening at home.
