A question for the experts

Hi, I just joined to ask this question....

The January edition of What Hi Fi reviewed Hi-Res download services, and i think it implied that there are differences between the sound of (presumably the same) music downloaded from different services, at the same word length and sampling rate. Is this what the reviewer is saying? If so, can someone explain why that would be. I had assumed that the base content would be the same digital image of the music and the process of downloading woul ensure that what arrived at the user's device would be a true copy...
