A different kind of spammers on this forum...

No if only we can find a way to sort our retail friends who post an anodyne comment on any thread they like just to get their name in front of the forum users...

I agree, that's a tricky area. In todays' competitive age, all retailers are finding ways to promote themselves. Forums are one of the best ways, because they're targeted to a specific audience.

But then, members also benefit from knowing the retailers well through forums (do they give sound advice or not, etc.) & they're free to decide if they want to buy from them or not. We do get some very useful advice (although not always unbiased) from the retailers. Most of the retailers on this forum will also do everything they can to keep buyers happy (no one wants a bad name to their shop/company on the very forum they're members of!).

I can understand it can become very difficult to police irrelevant posts just to promote their name. It's probably a necessary evil we have to bear with unless it gets overbearing.

i think its a good thing having david , rick and nick on here , they have always helped me with any queries ive had (and lets face it , ive had many) , although ive never bought from either of them , perhaps if i was living in the uk i would have ..

and as bb said , any forumite that does business with any of them , is likely to be looked after in the event of any problems arising from items sold , thats handy , and can help to give forumites peace of mind ..

More like spam fritters. Oh, and...

anodyne an-o-dyne Adj
Not likely to provoke dissent or offense; uncontentious or inoffensive, often deliberately so.

The three online dictionaries I looked at made no mention of that meaning. Just goes to prove you can't believe everything you read on the net, eh?

Maybe there could be a 'trade' section - or forum - just for the sales people.

Or a big highlighted warning underneath every trade member's posting that alerts the unsuspecting to the fact that everything they read from this person is most likely to be a sales pitch of some kind.

I am fed-up to the teeth with ATC loudspeakers, ATC amps and £3000 DACs being touted as some kind of universal panacea from one particular dealer.

"I just happened to spend an evening with this new Chord DAC yesterday, and it is honestly the best thing I have ever heard in my life. Strangely enough, when I started work this morning, I found out I was selling them as an official dealer and we have a shop full of them! What an amazing co-incidence. Even weirder, they just happened to be the perfect match for a pair of ATC SCM19s. Thankyou. Regards from...."

Or...

"The perfect partners for a Denon micro system are the amazing ATC SCM40's."

I exaggerate (just a little) but you get my drift.

LOL

I think you're onto something there. It could become the ATC sales pitch. So easy to drive, your car stereo has enough grunt...

Now Chebby, you're not insinuating partiality by some HiFi dealers towards the products they sell are you?

Heaven forbid!

P.S Though I do note one dealer came clean and admitted there was no difference between cables, so they can't all be bad.

Made me laugh, so NP.

Actually it was power cables only, I think.

I think it's perfectly fine for Rick, David, etc to post comments, so long as they are decent enough to place Ads in the Mag itself, even if in the back pages/every other month (your mileage may vary). We all need to have some give and take.

Ofcourse we all want total separation from editorial content and advertisers, but most of us on this forum know who is who.

Well, they are forum members like any of us. So why should separate rules apply to them (about placing ads in the mag), especially when they're prohibited from soliciting business of any kind here?
