Oldboy, I'm not sure if it's worse to acquire a new television that is about to be superseded, or still to be chugging away with plasma televisions (remember those?) of various vintages ... guess I'll have to throw them all out now! (But I'll do so in in environmentially friendly way, WEEE recycling and all that!) *preved*

And irrespective of price, or even if I won the lottery, I wouldn't want any of these four forthcoming OLEDs - they are all the wrong size, for me. Mind you, if they made a flat one in the right size .....!

Well I was never going to buy a 6grand tv without HDR. I think this is about the right set of Oled to buy. Also in a fews years 3D may no longer exist.

Yes too few sizes. My current TV is 60inch which is were my interest is. Seems I may have to go 5inches dwn cause the 65inch will be just too big from my viewing distance.

For 4K content, your viewing distance will be less.

Oh really. Well thats good then. Still, 65inch is going to look massive! *scratch_one-s_head*

The biggest advantage of 4K resolution is reduced viewing distance thereby filling your field of vision even more for that cinematic experience.

Gutted. My new TV is obsolete within two weeks of owning it!

dont be gutted because there won't be much 4k content around for a while and all the tech will be well over priced. Better to have a flagship 1080p picture than a 4k picture that will require loads of firmware updates etc etc etc..... You have made the right decision because anything else out now will not be better than your OLED(except for a projector 🙂....). Remember also, the grass is always greener 🙂

No it doesn't. Below is a photo of my friend Marina Bambino visiting from Los Angeles, with my now-departed Samsung PS64D8000 plasma television.

I deeply regret not getting the vt65 now, I thought it would be too big but you do get used to the size improvement after time.... Oooh er missus! 🙂

Yep, 55-inches is starting to look small to me too.

size is relevant to seating distance / image size on the retina.

just sit closer its a lot cheaper 🙂

I suspected as much, I was just being pedantic in pointing out his omission! Pity he didn't leap at the chance of buying ellisdj's machine, then.

ha ha just seen this, it is out of son of sj's character being padantic ....... 🙂 I must admit I did think about elisdj's VT but I have a 50" version calibrated so it wouldn't be economical now. I do however wish I'd purchased the 65" when I purchased the 50" VT nearly 2 years ago..

i must admit I will be looking at how the price drops with the new OLED Panasonic and like I've said in another thread, I would probably only invest high sums of money into a projector if the Panasonic doesn't come down in price.

Even I with a lottery win wouldn't pay £8 grand for the new 65" Panasonic OLED. I paid only £2,069 for my current Panasonic 65VT65 plasma in December 2014! So for the extra almost 6 grand, I would get 4K resolution, even deeper blacks, and ....

a hole in your pocket.

8grand for tv set..? No sir!! *acute* Even at this stage Oled should not be that expensive. The home cinema thing has just gone mad now. Everyone coming up new tech to get their hands on our hard earned cash. Even the LG 960 does not justify it's price & now panny says it's one is much better with another 2grand on top.

To me these are toys for boys with fat accounts. *lol*
