Hey,

In the near future I was planning to buy the following combination with a 2-zone setup:

* Yamaha RX-820 (700W = 100W x 7 (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.09 % THD, 2 ch driven)

* Boston Accoustics Soundware XS 5.1 SE (main zone: 4.95m by 4.5 m)

* 2 Boston Accoustics Soundware speakers (second zone: 4.2m by 3.2m)

First of all what does everybody think about this combo?

Second, are there alternatives to the RX-820 for a 3-zone setup? Problem with the RX-2020 and RX-3020 models is that they are way to powerfull for the soundware speakers... Are there 3-zone alternatives with about 100W per channel?

Best regards,

E.

Your combo is very good. There's no such thing as "too powerful". Higher models will drive your speakers more effortlessly, although your speakers won't bring out the advantages of having a higher end receiver.

So the specs of a Yamaha RX-A2020 receiver (1,260W = 140W x 9 (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.06% THD, 2ch driven), which can handle three zones, doesn't harm my Soundware speakers and oblige me to buy a more powerfull surround setup like Boston Accoustics A23/25 bookshelf speakers in combination with a A225C center speaker and ASW250 subwoofer?

Another problem that I have for the 3-zone setup is that there are only 2 connections at the back of the amplifier (RX-2020) for connecting an infrared amplifier/extender. Don't I need at least 3 IR-amplifier connections if the amplifier itself is placed out of sight in a cupboard? So 1 extender for the amp, 1 for zone 2 and 1 for zone 3?

Is it ok to use mini-jack connections in combination with regular speaker cable towards the rooms where the IR-extenders are coming?

Best regards,

E.
