Looks like we'll be getting our review models at about the same time the receivers hit stores - so we should have at least one 2011 Onkyo receiver review in our issue on-sale early April

No news at this stage. We tend to get news of higher-end models later in the year, with those products becoming avaialble late summer/Autumn time.

Choose from the following options:

1) Future-proofing

2) Because they can (ie chipsets are now available)

3) Because people will talk about it (which you have already proven).

Am hoping for some price-comparable competition to the Marantz AV7005 that doesn't look like, well, normal Onkyos! The fascias of these new products are encouraging.

Have to admit it's pretty good for sub-£500 amps, if I hadn't been turned off the Onkyo sound at the Bristol show a couple of years back I might be interested. Don't suppose they'll be showing any of these at this year's show will they?

Well the Onkyo sound certainly evolved last year (in our opinion) from the slightly gung-ho approach of a couple of years' back.

According to our Bristol Show preview blog, Onkyo plan to demo its AV receivers - i'd expect that to include the new models, though I will double-check...

Slightly? I thought I'd perforated an ear drum again (which I had at the previous year's show)!

Cool, thanks!

nodnarb4444:do we no if the 609 will have pre outs like my 705

The image is a little small on the blog but it doesn't look like it, if I was a betting man I might put a sneaky quid or two on the 709 having them, should such a beast ever appear...

Re seeing the new range at Bristol, Onkyo HQ says it's "under discussion" but depends on them getting sufficient samples in time. Should have confirmation in the next day or two. Fingers crossed.

Easily solved........cut the mains cable about 4 inches long and add a male IEC connector......job done, but you will lose the warranty on the product.....

I've done it to my Sony S370 despite this.......

Agree with PistolPete! Small tweak, possibly big improvement...

true, i did this on my old yamaha.

it does seem silly to take the option away.they must no that alot of there stuff is sold to enthusiasts and cant save them much if any money to sell with the fixed lead

As Onkyo currently sell an optional DAB receiver for their range, I thought that they might have built this in to the 2011 range - seems not, unless they do it for the higher models.

Tonya:I fail to see the significance of having a detachable power lead over a fixed one, or am I missing something here?

Only significant if you want use a more expensive one, like the Chord powerchord, etc.......

i no its still budget gear in the grand scheme, but £500, amp is the kind of price that people might think about upgrades to mains leads,

i no loads dont belive in these upgrades but its nice to have the option.
