Hi, I have to compromise. Wires are not welcome, in the living room. What would give the best surround for film and best music: a good 2.1 or a good sound bar(yamaha) . I imagine both can be connectedon a blu ray dvd.

Budget + - 500€

Thank you,

What shape is the room? Some of the yamaha DSP projecters are quite highly rated at steering surround but they do require a fairly conventional room shape to work really well. If you want the surround without the wires you need to look at some of the surround bars, if you just want better speakers then go with a good hifi set up. Best for music will be the 2.1, best for surround requires the projection of 5 channel (soundbar) - decide which is more important and go with that - both movies and music will likely sound better with whichever you choose than on your TV.

At £500 you may struggle to get a decent amp and speakers for stereo so I would push for a soundbar in that price bracket - if you already have a hifi then you could just get a wire to connect your input to the amp and hey presto your done (good interconnects will come in way under your budget and leave some money to think about upgrading a component within your current set up).

Good luck

Thank you.

Apparently there is no miracle. You had made it clearer. At that price , we can have both (music and movie).

Since your posting I just heard about he 3.1 system. Would it be the ideal compromise in my case. It says that music is good and some surround capacity .

Thank in advance for the advise,

Geer
