Hello;

i wonder if any one had make a comparation betwen SHM-cd and Blu-spec cd? any big difference?

ps. i know that the format is not so much important than the mastering, but wonder if you take the same very good mastering in both format(if any) and compare if there is really a big difference and better quality?

Regards

I've got some SHM CD's but no Blu-spec. The SHM's cost me a bomb and are remasters that have all been brick-walled during the remastering process so sound way too loud. Most of the SHM's I've seen are remasters. Sorry, this doesn't answer your question.

In my opinion, there will not difference in transparency of sound (barely listened improvement) between traditional CD and any other.

Because these technologies (SHM-CD and Blu-spec CD) applied to give effect of more safe reading of CD.

Cases, where damaged only most low bites for each of lower byte of 16 bit word, can lead to losing of transparency, theoretically.

But I suppose, such cases have very low probability due sequental placing of bites on CD. For damages of these bits, defects should be exactly periodical on the disk in place of the lowest bits.

As rule damaging may be listened as click and/or silence (depend on applied processing) or periodical skipping (sometimes fast).
So new formats, if it give more safety of writing/reading of CD, may cause lesser clicks/silences/skipping, but not barely listened transparency.

If by blu spec CD you mean BluRay Audio then I have both and SACD discs but never of the same album so comparisons are impossible.

Each format is expensive so I mainly stick with hi res downloads now.

Hi Al

Do you listen physical sadc as well as dsd downloads?
Wonder if you've done any comparison?

I listen to a vast range of formats. Not to compare, as you are never sure of the same source material being used, it's just music and the format depends on whether I am listening at home or putting on my portable player for use when away at work.
