    qed xt5 power cable

That cable is £150!!!?!?!? What joker is going to buy that? Seriously, there's a market for it?! The world has gone potty.

    Van Damme Hifi Speaker Cable

Absolutely. My 50p per metre Wilko cables from 11 years ago are still going strong!! Sound amazing.

    DACless streamer

Of course it sounds different. It always will. Listening and hearing involves a lot of post processing, and that happens in thee brain. Your mood, expectations, what your wife said to you in bed last night, this will all change the sound. 90% of what you all say and describe about the sound...

    ELECTROCOMPANIET AS filed for bankruptcy

First of all, what is wrong with a hifi from Currys??? If you really enjoyed the music then you would enjoy the convenience and simplicity of a simple all in one unit. For 99% of the time, for 99% of people, this is more than enough and will sound just as good. No need to faff about with...

    ELECTROCOMPANIET AS filed for bankruptcy

Hmm. Just read this thread. How interesting. Quite an insight into the 'audiophille'. High end hifi will always be very niche. Interesting analogy with cars and roads.... On that same analogy, most people are interested in the destination rather than the journey. The car just being used as a...

    Dac recommendations

They will all sound the same anyway. You know there is little to no difference between DACs. There was a really good abx test between various DACs ranging from a realtek from a computer motherboard to some £10000 monstrosity. No one could tell one from another. I know I will get burnt at the...

    Denon purchase, run-in?

Good point, I didn't think about the speakers. But I guess if the speakers needed breaking in, the manual should tell you? Having a read of this, it seems break in only takes about 10 seconds or so, and probably occured during testing at the factory...

    Denon purchase, run-in?

Yes, agree with the above posts. "running in" is a load of rubbish on solid state devices. It makes absolutely no sense at all and is not needed. Nice unit though. I'm sure your friend will be really pleased.

    Suggestions on streamer/amp

That Yamaha WXA-50 looks good. Spotted one on sale on a popular auction site in as new condition. Went for about £250 I think.

What was this thread about again?!?

All an amplifier does is amplify the input signal. That's all it does. As long as they're working within their operating limits, and are not faulty, they'll sound pretty much the same.

Well not really. What are we trying to achieve here? The 'best' audio quality possible, right? What is best depends on one's own personal tastes, to some degree. We can probably all agree that some really bad systems sound plain rubbish, distorting the sound and introducing artefact. However...

    New tidal

I admit, my statement was a bit of a headline grabber, or clickbait as they say. I only come to this conclusion from my own research and experience and only very recently actually. I am happy to be proved otherwise. I admit my methodology is not exactly water tight, but there is something to it...

We all have day jobs right? I don't make a career out of being a whathifi forum troll! Yes, I am a scientist. I'm sure many others on this forum are too.

Oh come on now, don't be a d##k, it's all a bit of fun. This is a hobby after all. It's full of debate and pis# taking. That's okay you know. But yes, as a scientist I like to ike out bulls##t from fact. I was a hifi buff once, but then learnt it's mostly marketing rubbish created to steal your...
