I can measurably show there is a differences between speaker cables

No measured difference doesn't necessarily mean no audible differences. You can't measure aliens, yet so many people have been probed by them.

Adding external fuses to a amp

We have much less to be paranoid now considering new info has come forward. Surely it's better to have the unit dropped and repaired than buy it with unknown defects s/h and play detective what could be going wrong. Now its easy for the repair technician to wrap his head arround possible...

Adding external fuses to a amp

What looks out of place? Soldering seems to be factory default, no hand soldering that I can notice. Components are dirt cheap and easy to source. Should be a simple fix if anything on the PSU board failed.

Adding external fuses to a amp

Thanks for the pics and good to see no burns and nasties happened. Whew! I honestly think it will be a simple repair. The fall may have made some issue with loose fitting in conectors. But best to have a shop diganose it and test it on the bench under controlled conditions. They know the...

    Headphone amplifiers vs Integrated amps

Even less of a difference than my AKGs with a high output impedance amp. Worst case scenario you will get 1db less bass and 0.5db less midrange.

    Primare I22

I'm 1000% convinced Primare don't use moldy french cheese in their digital amps. But I definitely know what you're experiencing. You are more engaged and immersed in the listening ritual each day. The new amp is a great occasion to revive the enthusiasm for enjoying music. Whatever the I22 is...

    Jazzland

Sad to hear this... A talented ECM artist and a great ambassador of European Jazz. Last album I listened from his quartet was Soul of Things, Variations I - XIII (2003).

Might as well monitor the current. Just make sure you use the 20A fuse on your DMM.

Adding external fuses to a amp

Most of the time only feasable repair is lowering the biasing untill the replaced components stop failing. It may no longer be a class A amp, but at least it wont end in the bin. I wouldn't call it risk free. What if it blew an expensive driver or unobtanium vintage driver?

Adding external fuses to a amp

The problem with Class A is you need tight tolerance matched components, otherwise the amp may go into oscilation and thermal runaway even if the components and soldering are perfect. The original manufacturer bought buckets full of transistors, resistors etc. and matched them closely before...

Adding external fuses to a amp

Best not to mess with it and just take it to a professional electronics repair service that knows how to fix laptops, tablets, phones and basically anything with small format component level repairs (because there is likely to have SMD fixes involved).

Adding external fuses to a amp

The most common problem with s/h amps. Repaired to work just enough to get it to sell, then never answer the phone to the buyer few weeks later. The fact that the amplifier fuses blew together with the voltage stabilizer means there was excessive current draw in the amp, not prior. The biggest...

    Hearing degradation

Change the Denon power cord to a silver aftermarket one. Hold on to the couch when you play music for the first time. The amounts of details will astonish.
