Thanks, it is a moulded plug and my feeling is, as you suggested, that the 'screen' is connected to the earth pin. I'll ponder a bit longer. I could of course unscrew the cover on the socket end and see what in there.

Hi, changing a plug is absolutely no bother to me, but thanks for your advice. I was really looking for info on the grounding wire and shielding binding on the cable and specifically how they are terminated in the plug. Thanks
