Help Sony STR DN1040 or Denon AVR X2000

Unfortunately the shop didn't have any stocks of the Denon when i had a demo, so i just listened to the Sony and Yamaha RX-V675, and was advised that the Denon was not as good (possible sales pitch) however i ended up without the Sony as IMO it has far more punch, its detailed with both multi...

Advice needed on AV receiver upgrade

Although it was back at the beginning of December when my 609 failed, i would have to say yes definitely a decent quality upgrade from the Sony in both5.1/7.1 and music, far more revealing on both counts.

    What is 4k compatibility?

I was just referring to common 3D, not 4k 3D which i was not even aware this was on the cards.

    What is 4k compatibility?

Most AV receiver's that are capable of passing 4K will also pass 3D, i know my Sony1040 will, but yes by the time you can watch your favorite film in 4K you will likely be thinking about upgrading you AV anyway.

Advice needed on AV receiver upgrade

Personally i would class the 923 as more a sideways step than an upgrade, most new AV amps will have a zone 2 feature, some can play a separate source via the on board amp, so just have a pre out for another amp, some both. I previously had an Onkyo TX-NR609 which failed so its now been...

    What is 4k compatibility?

The amp needs to be capable of passing a 4K signal, however you will still need a source and TV/display capable of 4K and cables for that matter, before you will actually be able utilize this feature.

    Yamaha rxv675 or denon avrx2000?

Don't know if this will help but i previously had an Onkyo TX-NR609 which failed, and i have recently been looking at a replacement, and had decided on either a Yamaha RX-V675 a Denon AVR-X2000 or a Sony STR-DN1040, When it came to a demo they didn't have the Denon, so it was just down to the...

    Does Price determine quality?

Yes we have and my opinion still stands, i also have a right to air it , my comment's are based on my research into the amount of reported Onkyo HDMI board failure's, and there are indisputably a lot of them, despite the "you only see the bad reports on the Internet scenario" like i said...

    Does Price determine quality?

To answer your first question, yes pretty much, although because AV moves on rapidly you can pick up last years modes at considerable discounts, I too came from an older type Sony AV amp with no HDMI switching, and was very surprised and pleased with the upgrade to an Onkyo TX-NR609 two years...

Time to upgrade PS3 to BDP?

I have just replaced my old style fat PS3, which now resides upstairs, mainly to stop annoying the wife, with a cheap Panasonic DMPBT130, The PS3 was connected by HDMI and optical to the AV receiver, and since i have an earlier Samsung smart TV, i used the PS3 to process the firms stored on a...

    Problems with Onkyo TX-NR609

How can the Internet make the problems look worse? people merely report the problems they have, and i don't think they do it for fun, the shear numbers speak for themselves, you have just admitted that your receiver has already been repaired once, that coupled with all the others don't exactly...

    Problems with Onkyo TX-NR609

Mine died just before Christmas with classic HDMI board problems, i initially contacted Onkyo EU and got a ticket number, but i think due to the holiday they took there time getting beck to me, so i posted on the Onkyo face-book page, there are a lot of problem reports there, Anyway once they...

buy onkyo av reciever or avoid the company like a plague given the issues on some models.

I must be one of the unfortunate ones, as after just on two years my Onkyo TX-NR 609 has died with the classic HDMI board problems, and if you think these failures are limited think again, i am also a member of the AV forums and there are lots of receiver failures posted there, and if you care...
