    Vinyl vs digital

Whatever the correct terminology for the process is, I think you need to cut him some slack in that he is Polish, and his english sometimes wanders..... Here is his history, as an engineer.... http://lampizator.eu/Fikus/ABOUT_US.html

    Vinyl vs digital

....so if you buy a cheap CD player, or an expensive one dressed-up to look nice, it may have cheap plastic components inside - cheap electronics, and minimal electronics. Sony, and other manufacturers of course, by the end of the 1980s, had worked out what was important to extract the best out...

    Vinyl vs digital

You have not read anything on my link to the Lampizator.... Here are a few snippets about specifically the old Sony that I searched for. This is the underside of the drop dead wonderful Sony KSS190A mechanism on Haal magnetic rails and everything is made of metal. This is the bottom side of...

    Vinyl vs digital

Rather than trying to grab everyone's quotes above, I just grabbed this one. Find yourself a quality CD player; absolutely use it just as a transport if you wish. But there's much more to it than you think. Lampizator has put in many many hours on the differences in CD players, which are/were...

What was your most inexpensive or most cost effective HiFi discovery

That old hi-fi is often of a better sound (and build) quality than new stuff. Whilst comparing various bits of kit a while back, I dragged my 1980 Crimson Elektrik power amp out of a cupboard, included it in the various 'sound-offs', and it sounds brilliant. Source is a (1987?) Sony...

    Question After upgrade thoughts.

Yes I'd be interested in people's opinions on this as well. I would imagine Arcam know a thing or two about DACs. Didn't it get a 5* from WhatFi?

    Direct input into power amps

    Can't see why not?

    Direct input into power amps

Old Sony CD players have variable line-out with a volume control on the front. I have a 555 ESD but use analogue variable line output direct into the back of a 1980 Crimson 520. I have various other bits of kit, some quite modern, (including a well regarded Arcam stand-alone DAC ) but the Sony...

Question Speakers and the 1 ohm resistor tweak

:D If we are being picky, it was 'advice', and that can certainly be poor.

Question Speakers and the 1 ohm resistor tweak

Sorry Mr Ears but that's a very closed and IMO simply wrong statement. There are a million items for sale in the world that suit 99% of your requirements, and those are the ones we buy. Tweaking the item so that it makes it better for you is normal practice; you don't 'buy something different'...

    Marantz or Cambridge?

In my research done before finding my Pioneer, I read only very positive reviews on the ?51 kit from Cambridge. Apparently very different from the ??0? Azur range. I was looking for an 851R but the Pioneer arrived first. ETA ...sorry it was the 751R - but it's the same '1 more' family over...

    New setup,life after AV

Personally I wouldn't bother with an amp like the 6007 - it won't be a good enough step up. I'd try for the next level and get something 2nd hand. Maybe a Rega or an older Leema Pulse for pure stereo. If you don't get on with such an amp, there's always a keen 2nd-hand market to sell into. I...
