Using the NAD headphone output. Comparing that with the Behringer output, the Behr highs and mids sound harsher, and there's less bass than there is listening through the NAD. The NAD output sounds more 'full'.

ok thanks, i guessed that would be a good plan! I just realised actually, turning the volume up higher, theres a faint electrical whirring/beeping sound coming through....that probably doesn't bode well! tried switching usb ports, no luck and the cable is built into the dac. :(

If you mean the "high quality streaming" tickbox in preferences that's already on. I'm outputting to the DAC via USB so there aren't any many options on windows, everything is set to standard and there's no 3rd party software.

I have never heard these headphones, but I heard some amped HD600s once and didn't take to them, I found them a little bit 'crisp' and cold and not very full bodied...if you've heard them, did you think there was a big difference between the 600s and the 650s?

MX518 is a great mouse, have used it several times and it's regularly discounted to c.£18 if you wait around a bit. Personally I prefer the Deathadder which is what I have - It's twice the price but the build quality is very impressive.
