Is Freesat recording still worth it?

We stream on demand and also use a Freesat box to record. The big benefit to me of the Freesat recorder is that you can fast forward through the adverts. The ads you have to sit through for the on demand services do my head in!

6 Year Old Dell XPS PC - Replace or Refresh?

Problem is that they all get a bit bloated and slow after a while. With the Intel i7-8700 and 256GB m2 PCie x4 SSD it should be a le to run pretty quickly. As some have said you're unlikely to be able to run top end games at crazy frame rates with the processor and graphics card you have...

LG 32UN650P 4K monitor vs MSI Modern MD342CQPW monitor

By the way, I meant to say a bit about the manufacturers. The panels tend (like TV panels I believe) to be made by a handful of manufacturers and sold to different companies. I think (and I don't know this for certain) that the one in my Gigabyte is actually an LG IPS pannel. It may well be...

LG 32UN650P 4K monitor vs MSI Modern MD342CQPW monitor

Interesting pair of monitors. Both really quite different. One is a curved 21:9 VA panel and the other is a flat IPS 16:9 IPS panel. VA panels tend to have higher contrast and deeper backs. Colours can be punchy but not necessarily accurate and they have a narrow viewing angle so the...

what is your favourite operating system

I'd forgotten about Mesh. Fortunately I avoided Time computers ("it's not a computer, it's a Time machine"). One of my friends had a Time Machine. It really was made of absolute cheese.

what is your favourite operating system

I too have ridden the wave from 3.11 to 95 to98 then to XP, Vista, Windows 7, Window 10 and now Windows 11. Our first PC, after BBC Micro system, Amstrad (not sure of the model but it had a 5 1/4 inch floppy disc drive) and Amiga 500 was a Viglen with a Pentium 90. It was one of the first...

But I'm sure you'll agree that nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

    Computer says no.

Sometimes this can be due to a cache issue where your web browser stores older versions of the website so it no longer meshes with what is actually now there. You could try accessing these sites using private browsing / incognito mode and see if you still get the issue. If its all working fine...

    PC Surgery

Isn't it a case of the more you add, the faster the computer runs?

    NAD D3020 repair

Good question. I honestly have no idea. I dismantled it a lot further than the brief looks I've had in the past. Everything inside seemed fine and there didn't seem to be any breaks in the circuits when tested with the multimeter. When disassembling the boards have to be prised apart as there...

    NAD D3020 repair

Definitely worth a punt! I've got some very fine (3mm dia) applicator brushes from another job I did a year or two back so will dig these out and have a try. I've been sitting tonight watching people test circuit boards with multimeters on internet video channels. It's over 20 years since my...

    NAD D3020 repair

I'm afraid not- Cumbria for me so can't get much further away than that without crossing the border! Given my lack of urgency / ability / will power I'm tempted to keep it as a headphone amplifier- at least that bit still works at the moment. Most difficult part seems to be working out how to...

    NAD D3020 repair

Well... it's me again! Just four years later. Have a reason to look at the D3020 again as I'd ideally like to use it for a computer based system in a hole office (TV plugged into a Naim Muso since 2020 and KEF floorstanders have gone so the D3020 has been in a box in the cupboard since then)...
