Advice regarding AMP and Centre Speakers - Upgrade?

Jack, I don't have experience with the products you are using, but it looks like the Aero 2 speakers are supposed to be paired with the Aero 5 centre, so tonally the 3 fronts should be pretty well balanced and should be a good match. Do bare in mind, the primary purpose of the centre speaker...

Best movie to demonstrate surround sound system?

"Super 8" - the train crash scene . The thunderous bass and enveloping surround sound mix, makes it my go to Blu-ray disc for demonstrations. Everyone who experiences it, all have the same reaction: WOW!!! In the Dolby Surround Pro-Logic days, "Heat" sounded amazing on LaserDisc, but for...

Dolby Atmos dilemma: 7.1.2 or 5.1.4?

I think more Dolby Atmos content is my biggest concern at the moment, not speaker choice. So far, there are only 2 movies available on UK Blu-ray disc with Dolby Atmos encoding - Transformers 4 and Expendables 3. There's also the great demo disc from Dolby - but I'm getting bored of it now...

    YCbCr, RGB or RGB Enhanced

RGB (16-235) is an odd term and isn't terminology I've seen before. I think they mean YCbCr (16-235), and have just called it RGB (16-235) in error (lots of manufacturers use misleading or plain wrong terms all the time). It sounds like the mode you should be using for Standard Video. If the...

Dolby Atmos dilemma: 7.1.2 or 5.1.4?

I too have gone for Dolby Atmos in a 7.1.2 configuration using a Denon AVR X-5200W. Very, very happy with the Denon Receiver (my first Denon product). Prefer the chassis style over the Marantz - but I know that's very subjective. Audyssey XT 32 and dual (independant) sub-woofer support made...

    YCbCr, RGB or RGB Enhanced

The Pioneer BDP-LX71 is a nice piece of kit. I had a BDP-LX70A for a while. Slow, but very well built, and very nice picture and sound. I used 7.1 analogue outputs and component video back then with my first projector. So, yes when you tell the player to output 4:4:4, it's doing it's own colour...

    YCbCr, RGB or RGB Enhanced

Feel free to pick my brains. Always happy to share & learn. The AV receiver can influence the display image. Many AV receivers will upscale and reprocess video and some even have options to adjust bightness levels or control DNR (switch it off!). It's always best to do a test and remove the AV...

    YCbCr, RGB or RGB Enhanced

Short answer: Use YCbCr. Longer answer: The video world, unlike the computer world use a video level of 16 for the blackest black and 235 for white. Values below 16 are usually still in the signal, but you shouldn't be able to distinguish different shades of grey below 16 - they should all...
