Paul, what's your field of expertise? Engineer is such a broad term. And how high did you qualify?

Im not disagreeing, tape has been around forever I know.... But playing tape loud reveals its limitations.(over done bass? I blame amps with no tone controls) But maybe it's our taste in music but to me bass now is superior - in terms of range depth, texture. I remember old bass but New...

'Problems' it's a loose term....not problems. Its like comparing the sound track on VHS with that of DVD or with a CD. I'm not saying bass never existed - it's just better now.....

Well..... I enjoy that sort of comparison and I have no problem being wrong or being corrected. My views are not cast in stone - I'm cool like that..... :-) Just that tape was always the bottom of the pile.....

I hear what you are saying here but it does depend on the quality of the production on the CD. MP3 has a 'ceiling' - a poor recording on CD may well be indistinguishable from MP3 - but a really good recording...... The thing with the likes of SACD is its limited by sample rates of the DAC more...

Well, the medium..... Reel to reel is magnetic tape it also requires a machanical device for playback. This in itself creates issues with regard fidelity. Unwanted noise and deteriorating over time. Bass though is an issue on tape, it's just a part of the mediums properties and always was...

    Help connecting amp to ps4

The composite adapter should come with the tv red/white/yellow along with the component red/green/blue adapter both to 3mm Jack - you need your own interconnects though. Plug into the Aux input on the amp.

I'll have to take your word Major, I have no experience of reel to reel tape. I worked with a fella who used videotape as a recording medium to good effect. He integrated his videoplayer into his set. Better than cassette tape by some margin but was still limited in frequency extremes. Bass...

    Help connecting amp to ps4

Plug the PS4 via HDMI into the tv, then the tv into the amp via the analog-out on th tv using the red/yellow/white to 3mm Jack adapter, you'll need a pair of interconnects from adapter to amp. Connect only the red/white.

    Top 10 testers......BluRay

Just read the article on the home page listing a best picture for testing your tv on the front page. I have to admit I disagree with most of the films listed, 9 out of 10 actually. While this is a subjective issue I thought it would be good if we all gave our recommendations. I'll list mine see...

    Loudness option

I have to say like most things hifi its a suck it and see thing. Boost/loudness buttons have there uses. I have one on the Yamaha ax-620. Bass light recordings being one of them. It works really well. They are also nice to have if you like to tinker with your sound. And can be used in the...

Reel to reel scored higher than CD and vinyl? DVD audio 6x better than CD, SACD 5x....? That research is bogus. Their math is wrong more detail required methinks......

    speakers vs headphones

I've never owned 'hi-end' headphones my current pair being in the £40 - £50 bracket. Sennheiser HD205II Previous pair Beyerdynamic DT231 Never listened to a dedicated headphone amp either. That said I prefer the sound of speakers. Headphones for me have never created the sort of immersive...
