What do the CDs sound like before ripping? Do you have a CD player? You need a process of comparison and elimination to find the weak link.

It is related to the quality of the stylus, specifically the polish of the diamond or whatever stone is used.

Interesting choice of Bruckner, why not 7th, 8th or 9th? Difficult to pick a Shostakovich, but I always find the 7th very moving, imaging living through the Leningrad siege and having this as your triumphant f u to the Nazis, "we will survive!!".

All you are really looking for in a record cleaner like this is reliability and a solid motor. The end result of cleaning depends upon a few other factors, not least your cleaning technque/routine and the brushes and cleaning fluid you use. Looking back to when I first started I wasn't great at...

I have used a VPI 16.5 for over 15 years, cleaned over 5000 LPs and it is still going strong. Various bits need replacing from time to time, which is fairly standard.

I use a special pen for just this job, a quick swizzle and it fits like a glove. I've nearly broken some LPs trying to get them off in the past.

Wobble seems a bit excessive, I'd exchange it, see if replacement did the same.

I always found Coldplay to sound poor on CD, particularly Mylo Xyloto. The vinyl versions always seem to be less compressed by some degree. A shame then that their live albums haven't seen vinyl releases.

I've heard the unmastered version and it still sounds awful, just in a different way.

The Joshua Tree (original) is a stunning sounding album, Eno's influence was severely diminished with the atrocious remaster/remix of recent years, sounding awful and extremely dull by comparison.

Portishead by Portishead, their second album, where I think they intentionally made it sound extremely harsh, is just unlistenable. Bought on LP, tried it, shelved it, tried it again a few years later after many system improvements, sounded ten times worse.
