going from floorstanders to small active speakers

Or you could just add a sub. Active or not you can't defy physics. A little box like the A5X can't possibly equal the bass available from a largish floorstander. In my set up the output from my "pre-amp" (actually a MF headphone amp) goes to the sub which is set to pass only the signal above...

Got a pair of Adam f5

+1 on the A5/7x but l would say that wouldn't l ;). Mine fed from a Synology NAS (controlled by an android tablet) via a Musical Fidelity M1 DAC/M1 HPA combo provides me with all the musical involvement/enjoyment l could possibly want. Sub helps a bit as well ;)

    Correct wiring of jumper cables

You know it's a slow day when you can be bothered to read most of the way through threads like this and oh look another AVI thread oh dear oh dear oh dear

USB to optical convertor for Synology NAS?

After my WD NAS died I recently replaced it with a Synology D213 Air which is plugged into my MF V-Link and works just fine, So much less faff than switching on a PC and a joy to use Audio Station controlled by my Android tablet

AVI ADM woofer power amp rated @ 250W. BS or not?

Argghhhhhhh well sorry WHF but posts like this, and sadly there are too too many of them are seriously undermining my will to live. Much as I dislike the word audiophile (I'm more of a musiophile), which for me has a certain negative connotation, there's a certain USA based forum aimed at...

AVI ADM woofer power amp rated @ 250W. BS or not?

Oh I think theres a point just not totally comvinced it's basis is a thirst for knowledge but then I am perhaps more than a little cynical

AVI ADM woofer power amp rated @ 250W. BS or not?

How strange considering all the anti (and for that matter pro) AVI shenanigans that out of a clear blue sky this question should crop up and from a source I'd take a wild guess at isn't exactly in the"pro AVI camp". Food for thought and cue for another couple of hundred oh yes you did oh no I...

    When should actives be recommended?

" Once there's enough demand (and product) to make it worthwhile keeping ranges of active speakers, you will see dealers keeping them. You cant stock a £2k product that only sells once a year, or even five times a year. " Dealers do just happens that they're predominantly pro-audio dealers.

    When should actives be recommended?

Got to love these sadly all too familiar circular arguments. Horses for courses one man's meat etc etc. Been around "Hi-Fi" since the days when the flat earthers first surfaced (and common sense and engineering went out the window) "don't even have a telephone in the same room as your...

    Best Speakers

well pretty is I suppose like beauty "in the eye of the beholder" but trust me the AVI ADM40's are a lot "prettier" to my eyes at least than my quite frankly pug ugly ADAM A7X's and as I'm about to go back into a situation where the dreaded WAF comes into play well..... At the end of the day...

    Best Speakers

I'm firmly of the opinion (as should be obvious from my signature) that, for me actives have many advantages and suit my listening preferences and musical tastes. I've been around long enough to remember the days when the considered advice from HiFi magazines was buy a Linn LP12 and spend...

    Audio Affair

Panicking ? Oh I think not, very mild concern possibly, I wouldn't put it stronger than that. Then mostly because I really really really want to play with my new headphone "rig" but SOON! (MF DAC MF HPA and Sennheiser HD650's plus various (run of the mill) interconnects) and I'm most...

    Audio Affair

"I don't think you've read this thread properly. Read it in full & then make your judgment." Didn't I just say "I didn't want to pre-judge them" and yes I have read the thread and happily for the OP there was a positive outcome. But having just spent over £1200 even a hint of a problem is...

    Audio Affair

Wish I'd seen this thread earlier having just spent circa 1200 GBP on a headphone system with them  Living in Cyprus I don't have much option but on-line shopping and I must admit my gut reaction based on their responses (or lack of) to my e-mails and messages was to look elsewhere but...
