Hi-fi fans assemble! The price of this award-winning Marantz stereo amp has crashed

It's almost, no is in the important bits identical to the Denon 600hne. Make what you will of that of course.

Whatever happened to the budget stereo amplifier market?

Yamaha A-S501 (not even the entry model) was £320 in amazon, Elac DBR62 can be found for under £500 and a Wiim pro for £150. Problem solved. Real hifi at sensible prices with plenty of power to fill a room and build quality to last for years.

    Got a deal on a Yamaha R-N800a... it's amazing

I have a Yamaha A-S501 and it works fine forme, but I also have a really poor room, and use a sub. I've done some crude correction with a PEQ in Roon and also my WiiM pro plus, but YPAO sounds like a great add on. I'm seriously considering swapping the 501 fir the 800A, though have no need for...

What do people mean when they say Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm have loads of bass?

I have some coming today, but from all the various FR tests I've seen they don't have an excessively emphasised bass, they look pretty flat to 30Hz. I've also just got a pair of Shure SRH840A and they do have too much, and needs an EQ cut. The biggest issue with Beyers is the upper mid spike...

Apologies then, no idea when I went off the road!

Please help me choose an amp.

The roksan attessa is definitely not better than the Yamaha. Keep it and buy a Wiim pro plus (which has a really well performing DAC compared to the Yamaha x01 amps and the Pro. I use mine with some Elac DBR62 and it has no problems despite their impedance phase swing at around 100Hz.

OK, I don't follow you David but I don't categorise Harman and Olives work as remotely snake oil, quite the opposite.

What's the issue with them? Is there a better way of trying to determine an optimum response that you can think of?

I've heard over 150 products this year, and these are my 5 hi-fi highlights

I'd really like to see the validated research that demonstrates electron path memory in a doped silicon semiconductor device, and how that "hardens" the sound. Might be useful to perhaps first quantify what they mean by harden.

Who is Harman? If you're referring to Harman curves, that was work conducted by Sean Olive when he worked for Harman International to establish an optimum EQ profile for headphones assuming an average head https://seanolive.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-relationship-between-perception-and.html...

Indeed. I was being sarcastic, and whilst agree that your ears should make the final decision, be under no illusion that anyone can hear the truth, or often even the difference between components. I'm firmly in the measurement science and engineering camp, there is no place for "a difference of...

Yamaha R-N1000a vs Cam. Audio CXA61?

I'm also looking at a R-N1000A, as an upgrade from my A-S501. It's essentially an A-S801 innards with the added receiver inputs, and a bargain at £1300. The R-N2000A is on another level though, the power amp section lifted from the A-S1200 and a decent phone and DAC stage. That said, I'm also...

    HI-Fi Game Changers for 2024?

TLDR to the OP: Wiim Pro Plus now that it has 4 ch PEQ, with at least 2 more, maybe 4. The remote will also eventually come with an inbuilt quality mic, and voila! room correction for the masses: easily the biggest improvement anyone can make to their system. For those who already own a...

Anyone else admit to sticking those little black triangles on your plugs and bass drivers with that infamous Peter Belt and his dark energy wizadry? I tried it, and if course it made no difference whatsoever. Most of these myths are not based on any known physics, and don't stand any form of...

    Question Technics SL1500c

Slightly left field option that's excellent value: Amp - Yamaha A-S501 Speakers - Elac DBR62 The Elacs punch way above their price point, but need a decent amp as they're a bit more difficult to drive than most budget speakers, but the Yamaha is well up to the job. The yamaha is around £400...
