Badly warped records can cause mistracking, skipping and "warp wow". Unless you experience any of these, then it's just cosmetic - annoying, but cosmetic

See if you can demo one before spending the money. The phono stages in most integrated amps/receivers are pretty good and you'd have to spend a disproportionate amount for a significant improvement.

You'll have to spend a lot more money to improve on the Onkyo's phono stage.

You might be surprised what music is available on youtube or, heaven forbid, one of the torrent services (after all, you've already bought the rights to listen to the music).

VHS HiFi was vastly superior to cassette and didn't have the issues with dolby, bias, or azimuth. No comparison.
