Streaming services (Netflix, Amazon, NowTV, Apple TV) & HD audio

Went from Rdio to Spotify, now on Tidal. Ain't bought a CD for probably 5 years. Have Netflix Canada and totally happy with that. I'm looking to get rid of cable and just have internet and go the full streaming route. I have 1080P Blu ray and buy discs when they're $10. I actually prefer the...

Chromecast ultra for streaming music to avr

Basically use it as a 2.0 system. Chromecast straight into the HDMI on my Nad M51 dac to Genelec 8050's (so I have 2 - 8" subs), upgraded from Spotify to Tidal. Tidal's good, but I find it glitchy in comparison to Sonos and Spotify. Dunno if this is down to the IT connection or just the tech...

    DAC Suggestions and Advice

Just bought this brand new for the equivalent of 450 quid, brand new (but probably been sat in its box on a shelf for 4 years), USB, only 1 optical, but 2 HDMI inputs. I run a Chromecast into the HDMI and out into the TV, also hooked up an old blu ray player to give a class stereo TV set up...

I got in to trouble the other night

You could stick the movie on with the sub low, go and knock on yer neighbours door and ask if you could test the level of your sub, get yer missus to then operate the sub in increments and just call her on her cell when it gets to a point where it is noticeable in your neighbours. You can then...

    Chromecast Audio observations

I’m starting to migrate from Sonos to Chromecast. Same again from Spotify to Tidal. Originally had the CCA thru a cheapo Amazon Dac (optical) into my Genelecs, OK but knew this setup was still lacking. Then I got my Chromecast, fitted a TV between my speakers and ran an optical out from the...

small desktop powered speakers- all connections in right speaker

These ain’t full scale actives and the lab tests aren’t 100%. For the money I can’t complain, I currently have these in a shared workspace (70’x70’x20’), they get everyone dancing and tapping their feet. OP’s just looking for options, these are half of the 200 quid budget, worth a listen to...

Chromecast using TV as a display to speakers

After listening to your posts... I have an older big plasma in the basement, decided to mount this, it has an optical out and usb (to power the CC). I signed up to Tidal hifi and ran the optical to a cheapo $20 Amazon dac I've had for my workshop speakers. This is a noticeable step up from my...

Chromecast using TV as a display to speakers

Been trying to post a reply for the last 3 days but keep getting an error code from WHF! So, picking up on what you're both saying, whether it be scart to RCA or RCA, this way seems like it will be transferring a compromised signal over to the speakers? I think I'm right in believing the...

Chromecast using TV as a display to speakers

So to make this even easier, if the TV has the RCA outputs I could just plug in my current RCA to XLR cables, I could have Spotify/Netflix/YouTube on the screen and the sound would just go straight thru to the speakers? No loss in quality? Hopefully soon Spotify will bring in their hifi tier...

Chromecast using TV as a display to speakers

That’s another idea, but I’m just trying to keep it as simple as can be... From your previous post I’m taking I need a TV with a digital out, into a dac then into the speakers?

Chromecast using TV as a display to speakers

Haven’t got the TV yet, Just need to make sure I can get the right outputs. Speakers are Genelec 8050’s XLR connections

Chromecast using TV as a display to speakers

Using a Chromecast (not audio), Is there anyway to pass thru to a set of active speakers? I’d like to use the TV as a display to show track info, but use my speakers for the sound. What would be the best way to connect to the speakers from the TV with no loss in quality? I currently use rca -...

It is quite a three pipe problem

You may have more wax in your left ear. Have you tried listening with your back facing the speakers*pardon*

How DO You Calibrate a New TV?

Dunno whether this has been said before, but why do companies not create and package a calibration disc specific to that range of tv? You get a Mic and inbuilt software to set up a home cinema amp which generally cost less than the majority of tv's out there.
