Thanks for the advice. I setup the deck as per the instructions that came with it but (as with most things) i'm maybe missing a few tricks and will do some research. A few people have suggested a different preamp so it looks like the weak link.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Maybe a new phono amp and cartridge is the way forward - i'll call the store and see what returns options are for the phono preamp. And do some more research!

The cartridge is an Ortofon 2M Red which I’ve read good things about. I do wonder if the phono preamp could be the weak link.

I wouldn’t say the streaming sound is vastly better. Just has more punch and dynamism. I endeavoured to set the the turntable as ore Isley as possible following the Project instructions. Level service, correct weighting as per the guide. I could play around with it.

So is the idea that the Node is converting my vinyl analogue sound to digital a crazy one?
