    Appreciating you system

These days, the hobby is settled for me, though I do swap bits of kit around still, it's not in search of that "elusive" sound that is always the next best thing for some, but never quite achievable (mostly because there's always the next next best thing just around the corner). I still enjoy...

Toddler won’t leave my speakers alone

I had twins and at the same time had one of those little play pens for babies that gave them freedom of movement but let you potter round the house knowing they were safe. The pen could fold away for storage but as my two grew, I just lined it up fully open in front of the sideboard on which...

    NAD 3120 & Mordaunt-Short MS10i

So, a correction from me. I mistakenly commented on the wrong brand earlier in this thread. I'd said Kerr Acoustics had an exceptionally bright sounding speaker. My error. The Kerr gear was excellent from memory, I was really referring to the Ophidian Ffion floorstander which was the ear...

    Best Bang for Lowest Spend

Hard to make any recommendations when the underlying ask is so vague.

Excellent sound quality in a system is enough for most people with neighbours

Yes, so I'm thinking of the AU-a907 which looked the part and I think sounded it too. The 607 wasn't bad either. Now that I've got some passive speakers, I might start shopping around for some Sansui gear again! #ScratchThatItch

Name one product that should be included in your HiFi setup?

Away from all the obvious things like speakers, amps and the like, I'd go with knowing the kind of sound that you like rather than the gear you think you want. When you know how you like to hear stuff, you're halfway there.

Excellent sound quality in a system is enough for most people with neighbours

Their 70s and arguably early 90s gear was truly stunning. I had the AU-217 and 717 amps and they were just astoundingly good. The drawback with the 717 amp was the volume pot which was proprietary, sealed (bizarrely) and next to impossible to service. Plug it up with some WD40 and hope for...

Anyone going to buy the new KEF Coda wireless system?

I think it's pretty obvious if you look at his last posts. Maybe, lots of his posts. I don't want to say too much as he's not here to defend himself. Nothing to do with me ultimately, but if you go down the road he chose, it's a pretty fast track out the building I guess. I'd maybe say that...

Anyone going to buy the new KEF Coda wireless system?

Only if you're prepared to believe someone who hasn't heard either model, and took the written opinion of a review as being chapter and verse. Despite that greed never heard a 100w active speaker either. Bottom line, the departed Manic was talking out his hat.

Question What's your next HiFi purchase?

That depends on what you're looking to recall. I agree when it comes into this notion that everything was better in the 40s and 50s (it wasn't) but not for a whole bunch of other stuff.

Question What's your next HiFi purchase?

Not really. Not at all in fact.

Question What's your next HiFi purchase?

So, the saga of the cassette deck - such a pity but this needs to get returned. The seller had done some excellent work on stripping the deck down, cleaning and refurbishing it and putting it all back together again. Unfortunately, they failed to mention the stale tobacco smoke odour that...

Question What's your next HiFi purchase?

Open Box would mean they've been a display item and unused. I buy OB stuff from Cambridge and tbh, they're mint. I'd expect if the Tyson headphones had been used, they've had replaced the pads and had the drivers professionally cleaned by the manufacturer. Typically though, I'd expect these...

Question Do you still buy vinyl records, and where from?

Yep, still buying vinyl. I'll usually buy from one of the independents in Edinburgh and usually attend a few record fairs each year too. Not so much online these days but occasionally I will and that'll often be direct from the artist's site (David Byrne's last LP and Elton John and Brandi...

    Goodbye Qobuz, hello Spotify Lossless!

I think I'm going back a good 20 years for that article. Think it was in The Guardian and while the artist got about £1-1.50, the piece gave a breakdown of the other costs, X amount of the final cost was on marketing, CD design, management, tax, etc, etc. And now, like you say, all the money is...
