What are the advantages of a separate TV streamer?

Jams, I bought an Apple TV box last summer. It connects to my AVR allowing sound to be directed through my 5.1.2 system. So even YouTube sound is much better than via TV speakers. Apple TV has Atmos sound on many programmes. No TV I’m aware of can produce more than 2.0 sound.

    Apple TV

I’m probably going to buy the AppleTV box but for different reasons. It allows you access to a large film library many in 4K with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Prices average around £8. Far less than the £15-£30 for physical media. And no storage problems if that’s an issue. I’ll still buy...

Need recommendation for Bluray player, simple but excellent

Because unlike streaming media a Blu-Ray disc is always available and is of higher quality in both sound and picture.

    Oh no!

Good grief. I’m just trying to be helpful. There is usually a way of getting a disk out if the motor mechanism fails. If all else fails the OP has no option but to discard the player and buy new.

    Oh no!

I’m not suggesting it’s a network problem. Just that a factory reset may cure the problem.

    Oh no!

@Caseyjones125 , there’s likely to be a factory reset option. That may well clear the problem. See your manual for details. I had a problem not dissimilar to yours with my Oppo 203. Turns out making it permanently visible on my network was the problem. Turned that option off so it’s only...

£4/6K Budget for Amp and Speakers?

    Yes.

£4/6K Budget for Amp and Speakers?

@Witterings , my Yamaha £2K AVR bought back in 2012 was used for stereo music in Direct mode for years. I wondered why my floor standing B&Ws produced so little deep bass. That was solved by adding a Naim XS3. The control, attack and rhythm was brilliant. Also, the bass extended further than...

£4/6K Budget for Amp and Speakers?

I’m watching ITV via my Sky box with the sound through the AVR. Adjusting the volume knob on the Naim has no effect. This is because it being used as a power amp for the front pair. Volume is controlled by the pre-amp which is the AVR. Thinking back to my Audiolab 8000C/P what controls did the...

£4/6K Budget for Amp and Speakers?

You just run the speaker setup again. No distances have changed and when I did mine a couple of years ago I cannot recall any problems. It’s a one-off action then you’re done. It’s possible the volume is set at the pre-amp level in which case utilising a more powerful amp for the front pair has...

£4/6K Budget for Amp and Speakers?

You don’t. In hi-fi mode the volume is controlled by the amp. In home cinema mode the AVR controls it as the amp is just used as a power amp.

£4/6K Budget for Amp and Speakers?

It gives you an independent hi-fi system which can still be used for home cinema. A source - streamer, turntable or CD player - is connected to your hi-fi amp via RCA analogue cables. Front left / right speakers connect to the amp. Stereo music via a hi-fi system. But when you want to watch...

£4/6K Budget for Amp and Speakers?

Consider a Naim XS3 with a few loudspeakers. The Naim Supernait 3 is used at hifi shows as it’s punchy but fairly neutral. The XS3 is £2.5K, has HT Bypass and very close sonically to the SN3. My 22 year-old B&W CM4s work well with it. Plenty of choice with current 700 series from B&W to keep...

Comparison naim nait xs3 rega Elicit mk5

This from the Naim site… “70W per channel into 8 ohms (4mm sockets), 100W per channel into 4 ohms”. I have the XS3 driving B&W CM4s - floorstanders and 8 ohm. The room is filled with sound with the volume at 1/4 . Shouldn’t be a problem.

    Best AVR's For Music

@Witterings , a really good pair of speakers driven by an AVR won’t sound as impressive as a modest pair driven by a quality amp. The quality of the speakers will reveal the weaknesses of the amp. I’m now hearing far deeper bass with the Naim than I ever heard from my AVR.
