Linn Axis + Akito Arm 25 years old. Time to replace?

yeah...It's hard finding stockists who stock cartridges let alone getting a demo. May have to take a gamble and bite the bullet. My Pro Ject phono amp is part tube so will maybe help to soften any possible brightness. Should that be the case with those you recommended. Thanks

Sorry to bump this but any advice on Linn service agents in the Bristol area?

Linn Axis + Akito Arm 25 years old. Time to replace?

The Ortofon Black and Clearaudio sound like they can be a bit bright and need a bit of careful matching? Would something like the Goldring 2500 suit the Linn and my music taste better? I dont like over bright reproduction and find it too fatiguing. Also, I live in the Bristol area. Any...

Linn Axis + Akito Arm 25 years old. Time to replace?

Thank you very much for the comments. Just noticed an Axis went for £320 on ebay with the Basik + arm. Amazing s/hand price. I do like the AT120E/T cartridge and dont find it too bright, maybe the Pro Ject Tube Box II softens the sound a little? But I heed the advice and I guess a service and...

Linn Axis + Akito Arm 25 years old. Time to replace?

Have had this turntable since 1988 and it has served me very well. It was last serviced 9 years ago (cost £100) but has had less than 500 hours use since then. The cartridge (a AT120E/T great for rock!) has only done about 100 hours and is a couple of years old only. It all works perfectly, no...

New IPL S5TL Speakers for my System

Hi, Looking good Were they easy to construct? And have you had to fine tune them much? I am just going through the motions of ordering the smaller M1Tlm speakers. After talking with Ivan @ IPL he suggested these for my size of room, listening position and taste in music. I will hopefully get...

This was really not something I wanted to get into!

Still kicking myself for not picking up those Mission 752s that went for £31 on ebay. £31!!!! Omnibeard I too recently sold a pair of these for a similar amount and was gutted at the very low price I got for them  I would also confirm that if it is any consolation I don't think they...

Epos Epic 5 v Mission 752 Freedom..Upgrade or sideways move?

Glad to hear you have had a chance to listen to a pair of epic 5's. I too have read that the bass is a bit "light" for the size of speaker More thought me thinks...will live with my excellent 752's for a bit longer...don't want to change for the sake of it especially if the epic 5's give me a...

Epos Epic 5 v Mission 752 Freedom..Upgrade or sideways move?

How about a bigger Kef (R500,700,900). Not all of them are cheap! Yes...I have also thought about the new Kef R series. I did like the q300's but were too big IMO as a standmount. Whilst my 752's are bigger volume wise, the increased size is better distributed and not so intrusive in my...

Epos Epic 5 v Mission 752 Freedom..Upgrade or sideways move?

Have recently changed from Kef q300 standmounts and prefer the larger sense of scale and depth offered by floorstanders. So epic 2's are not an option. As for going and listening, there does not seem to be a stockist near to me in Bristol. Besides, shop demo's are all well and good but you...

Epos Epic 5 v Mission 752 Freedom..Upgrade or sideways move?

Yes, had original 752's but after living with them for a short while I found them to be a bit too fatiguing. The freedoms are smoother and non fatiguing in my system. Guess it's down to system synergy and room acoustics which is why the freedoms fit the bill. That's not to say the original...
