Peachtree Nova 65SE and BT 1 APT-X Receiver

You might want to consider the Belkin HD BT receiver available from Amazon here for about £40. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Bluetooth-Technology-Smartphones-Bluetooth-Enabled/dp/B00DSNWM2K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404483654&sr=8-1&keywords=belkin+bt+receiver I have one running into the...

    Naim / Focal takeover

Fairly standard approach really. The founder sells up, retaining a nominal role but basically cashing in his life's work (and good for him). Private equity comes in with a view to exiting in 3-4 years having built the group up further and making a return of anything from 5 x their investment...

    Spotify choice.

Chebby Altho now mainly a Qobuz user I was a Spotify user for quite some time (I still have the £5 a month service as 'backup'). Spotify is good for jazz - my main genre if I have one. Certainly better than Qobuz. On classical I find Qobuz extremely good. For example I recently wanted to find...

    Understanding acclaim for certain amplifiers

Its probably down to better marketing than technical differences. That and fashion - some things are in vogue, some not. Although I agree that power ratings are only one part of the story.

Qobuz streaming service, anyone use it?

Bluedroog Interesting, I've just checked and London Grammar is on my Qobuz and streams fine. I'm on the French version still (€20 not £20!), I don't know if that makes a difference (I was told the catalogue for the French service is bigger than the UK one, presumably for licensing reasons) In...

Qobuz streaming service, anyone use it?

James i can only speak for myself - I haven't really had any problems. True the catalogue isn't quite as extensive but I suppose it depends what you listen to - the latest rock / pop stuff isn't really my field (with some exceptions), I'm more of a jazz man. It's slightly frustrating but not...

Qobuz streaming service, anyone use it?

I've been a user of the French service for about 5 months now. It is a little quirky - I reckon the WHF review got it right on - but it is a very good service indeed. I won't reiterate the review, just a couple of pointsworth making. First, their customer service is good - email them in English...

    Your favourite Punk albums

BBB OK, it's on Qobuz so I've just favourited it and will give it a listen - never let it be said I've got a closed mind. Now can I interest you in some jazz funk?!!! (if yes try Brian Culbertson - Live from the Inside) Phil

    Your favourite Punk albums

That's easy........errr................none. And that's as one who is 52 and therefore lived through the height of punk. An almost complete lack of anything vaguely musical. Which is perhaps the point, it was all about capturing the anger of youth wasn't it? I wonder how angry Mr Weller is...

    Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2 £12

Sorry, having caught the end of KA 1 a while back you'd have to pay me more than that to watch them both all the way through ;)

    Naim Statement

Naim & Focal's joint turnover is aroud £50m according to Wikipaedia. So those pre-orders represent a significant increase in their own right (even allowing for £120k being the retail price, not what Naim get). I suspect (make that hope to god) they are high margin, so the impact on profits will...

    Sonos Connect Pricing

It's priced at what the market will pay, like everything else if you aren't prepared to pay this then don't buy it, go with one if it's competitors. The fact that there aren't really any perhaps is part of the problem. Either Sonos have got the market sewn up because of superior products and...

    Speaker recommendations for smallish room

I'd also suggest you don't discount the Harbeth P3ESR without hearing them. I demo'd a pair in a larger room than yours (the main room at KJWestOne) and they sounded great - able to get DSOTM filling the room pretty darned well. The 30.1's would be even better I suspect (Haven't heard them) but...

Old set of speakers lying about

DM39 a good suggestion. Alternative = buy an old Denon or Rotel amp for around £40 on eBay, get a 30 pin connector to 2 phono cable for not much money. Plug iPhone / iPad in, off you go. £50 max. Should sound pretty good. If / when the amp expires just buy another. My dad uses 2 Kef eggs...
