    Budget headphone recommendation

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 can be had for around £95 now. Great headphones good detail without being overly analytical, bass is also solid.

Rega DAC or Audiolab MDAC to replace Cambridge DAC magic

My preference is the Rega DAC having previously owned one and having compared it to the MDAC. Having said that both are good and it will depend on what sound you want to achieve. The Rega gives a rich sound with good bass, detail is good, but not as revealing as the MDAC. In the system I tried...

    Integrated amp for MA RX6?

    Op amps

I've had 2 pieces of equipment upgraded in the past by Fidelity Audio, a Yamaha Z7 amp had all the opamps replaced with LM4562's (as used in the Z11) and a Cambridge Audio DacMagic with Burson opamps. Both upgrades produced sonic improvements, the Bursons in the DacMagic took it to a new level...

    Op amps

In my experience, opamps have quite a say in how equipment sounds. All too often amplifiers, DAC's, etc. are manufactured with ultra cheap opamps, upgrading will produce noticeable improvements for relatively little outlay.

    Teac UD-501 DSD DAC

Teac's ASIO driver has been working with J.River for quite a while now, no need for the workaround.

Bright harsh sound with my ProAc D18

I had a similar problem with Proac Studio 140's in a previous system. The Sabre DAC does produce a clinical sound, I'd recommend an audition of a Rega DAC. I only sold mine as I wanted DSD decoding. Also, no silver cables.

Kef R100 with Naim Nait XS

I don't think metal tweeters are a match with amps like Naim and Cyrus, also I'd steer clear of any form of silver speaker cable.

Kef R100 with Naim Nait XS

I was using a Nait XS with Monitor Audio RX6 speakers & Chord Odyssey speaker cable. Things were too bright under this setup. I replaced the speakers for PMC GB1i's and the cable for Avondale Black Link. I now get a very clear and detailed sound with good bass, but no harshness.

Moving my FLAC files ?? help please

Even if you find another portable player, it's going to need a large storage capacity for lossless files of any format. I use dBPowerAmp to convert my already ripped FLAC files to mp3 for playback on my iPhone. I don't necessarily think you'd notice a lot of difference between a good mp3 rip...

Speaker cables for Dali Zensor 3

I replaced Chord Odyssey with Avondale Blacklink. Produces a lively detailed sound but never strays into harshness as the Odyssey did in my system. I did try the Blacklink against Van Damme, Van Damme good for it's price but produced a dull sound by comparison to the Blacklink.

    MONITOR AUDIO RX 6

It did much to my amazement. I had a Supra USB lead, but when I bought my DAC the dealer lent me the Vertere. I was a bit annoyed with myself when I got home, I was thinking why did I take it, I'm only going to have to post it back. I was really sceptical as to how a USB cable could make a...

    MONITOR AUDIO RX 6

My previous experience with Pioneer amplification is that it's on the bright side of neutral. I recently sold my RX6's as they didn't suit the lively nature of my Naim amp. My personal view would be that the RX6's need amplification on the warmer side of neutral to be at their best.
