Cambridge Audio CXN vs 851N (why no love or review for the 851N)

I've had the 851N for a few months now, and I must say, it's a great streamer! I upgraded from the Stream Magic 6 V2. Sonically there isn't a huge amount of difference, but the inputs, screen and remote make this a good upgrade for me. I have mine hooked up in digital pre amp mode straight to...

Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 ??(V1) Vs: The new 851N Network player? Anyone

I have had the 851N for about a week now, as a replacement for the SM6 v2. I love it! The build quality is very good, very solid and well made. The colour screen is beautiful. The menu is a bit laggy and it's hard to see what you are selecting from across the room as the bar is almost the...

    Cambridge CXN finally arrived!

Great, thank you. I decided to go with the Azur 851N as it fits in with the rest of my kit better (being CA Azur) I felt the CXN would look different and not match, they even changed the logo on the CX series. I just hope the Azur 851N sounds as goodas the SM6v2 did!

    Cambridge CXN finally arrived!

Yes same mother board and DAC, but they have removed the digital filters. Have you owned both the SM6 and CXN? could you tell a difference in sound?

Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 ??(V1) Vs: The new 851N Network player? Anyone

Thank you. I read in a comment you made earlier that you said the SM6 sound better than the CXN. You don't feel this is the case now?

    Cambridge CXN finally arrived!

So you think in terms of audio quality the SM6 did actually sound better than the CXN? I ask because I have a SM6 v2 that has been repaired twice and has just broke again, the retailer offered a replacement unit but as they don't have the SM6 anymore they've offered the CXN. I notice the CXN...

Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 ??(V1) Vs: The new 851N Network player? Anyone

My SM6 v2 broke and the retailer offered me a replacement CXN instead as they don't have the SM6v2 anymore. I actually see the CXN as a downgrade (screen aside) The CXN doesn't have the same audio circuit as the SM6, it no longer has the steep, linear and phase filters. The flagship 851N...

    Digital vs Analog Volume Control

Thanks for the advice :) On the box of the power amp it says to run the amp for a constant 36 hours before use. Does this mean just have it on? Or do I need to be playing music for 36 hours? Sorry if that's a silly question! Obviously I don't want to be playing music for 36 hours...

    Digital vs Analog Volume Control

I went for the shoot out today between the 2 amps. The integrated amp using SM6 as source sounded warmer, and, to me more pleasing. The Power amp, using SM6 as digital preamp, sounded less warm but had much more detail and was more dynamic, also better timing. Personally I preferred the...

    Digital vs Analog Volume Control

Yes this is true. I always seem to thoroughly research products before buying and sometimes it's a curse. It might be better to be ignorant and just enjoy what end up with. There's always better. Anyway, I had a chat with my local hi fi store and they are happy to use the 651W that I ordered...

    Digital vs Analog Volume Control

Thanks Matt. I'll have a play with Foobar2000, sounds really interesting. I'm in the Graphics/imaging industry and this all sounds similar to 8bit vs 16bit image files. Between the 2 there is very little difference to the eye. The human eye can't actually see much past an 8bit file anyway...

    Digital vs Analog Volume Control

Only one problem with that, I'm living in New Zealand. I do have a good HiFi store near me but they have very limited stock, hence me not being able to demo the power amp. I'm sure if it was really terrible then they would let me change it. From what you're all saying though it sounds like it...
