Hi there Now I've finally sorted out my system issues, I need another piece of advise from you lovely people please! I have a Rega Elicit-R, Arcam CD and only 1 spare shelf. Currently I have the amp on top of my CD player, but that amp is VERY HEAVY. It weighs 13kg or something nuts like that...

So this has been a bit of a journey... tried loads of combos and finally settled on the Oberons with a Rega Elicit-R.

So the Audiolab arrived today, and the harshness has gone. It sounds fantastic. Not perfect, but for the price & with the constraints I have over space, it's really flippin' good. I'm even wondering what their CD player (6700) sounds like against my Arcam CD73... purely for having 1 remote...

Agree. Will demo the Audiolab tomorrow and see where I'm at. Can't really get the speakers further apart, as restricted with the room etc - one would end up being a sofa. Can only do what I can do.

Everyone has an opinion, but it's so subjective that largely it's worth ignoring and finding out for yourself I think. I demoed a Marantz and it was warmer, but less space than the Audiolab, which wasn't as warm but clearer but not harsh like the Arcam. Just my ears in a demo room. So take that...

FYI, today I A-B'd the Oberons with the A5 vs a couple of other amps and found the A5 to be noticeably harsh in the high mids and treble in comparison. I'm swapping my A5 out for an Audiolab 6000A and am going to see how that goes. The Audiolab had what I would describe as slightly less clarity...

You're 100% right on this. I went a bit all in on the changes! I've not got the old kit anymore either! I really didn't expect the mids to be so harsh though. It almost makes you go 'eeeeshkkk!' I get that it might not be perfect and if I had infinite time, money and space, demoing a load of kit...

I'd love to do that, but sadly I live in a rented house and need to make the best of the situation that I have. I appreciate that I can't have perfection, but I CAN have something that sounds decent and I enjoy.

Sadly where I live doesn't make demos easy, so I went off reviews etc. It seems to just be a particular frequency range - the rest I really like.
