    Cyrus one amplifier

I have a faint recollection of the original Cyrus One and it isn’t a particularly positive one. They always seemed a bit cheaply made to me, and the idea that after decades it’s a ‘giant killer’ is pretty silly. The article that @Fandango Andy links is pretty helpful too. I thought the...

General Hi-Fi post - social media

I retired ten years ago, and I can’t hear much at all these days! (But a symphony orchestra is very audible in a decent hall!). 😉🎶

Downsizing: can I get a similar sound for much cheaper?

I’m delighted you love them, and agree that they’re the components to keep!

    Musicraft p700

Yes, and maybe the fan suggests AV use tucked away in a cabinet, maybe? In the nicest way, why did you buy it @eoghanC ? Was it a skip find as it looks, er, well used!? Welcome to the forum!

    Speaker cable

Not in my experience. I think Nordost is deliberately bright, for example, but it’s all foo to me, not serious engineering. I know the confusion Linn caused by calling their ‘made of copper’ interconnects Silver, just to distinguish it from the lesser Black version!

    Speaker cable

Belated welcome from me! To be honest, the notion that there’s a ‘match’ to your speakers isn't something I’m persuaded by these days. The impedance and other loads your speakers present to the amplifier are umpteen times larger than the minuscule effects from any standard speaker cable...

    Weakness in vintage setup

You may be hearing resonance from the cabinet, but please check this:- are the speakers in phase? That means positive terminal to positive from amp to speaker, in both channels. And obviously negative to negative. If you’ve accidentally reversed one channel you’ll have no bass, because one...

    Servicing Naim Nait Amplifier

True, but this is about the original Naim devices like preamps and power amps where the accepted behaviour was to leave them fully powered up all the time. The assertion was that it sounds better that way. Naim forum contributors used to write how after their long holiday it took a week for...

    Servicing Naim Nait Amplifier

I don’t know any but Naim’s own forum surely will have some suggestions. But I second the point about not fixing what isn't broken. Unfortunately Naim created a habit where their owners are led to think amplifiers need new capacitors regularly. Either they fit under-specified or dirt cheap...

Well, that was a bit of luck then!

    Primare Recap

My first call would be to Karma AV, who import Primare, assuming you’re in the UK. They may no longer support it as it must be 15 plus years old. But they probably are well placed to refer you to someone. Otherwise, you can raise a ticket at Primare’s website. The ever helpful Terry Medalen...

    Question Lector - Harbeth

They’re fine, really. If you don’t like the sound then it’s not the cables!

    Question Lector - Harbeth

Then use Van Damme, as used by Harbeth and many studios. https://www.van-damme.com/vandamme_product/van-damme-up-lcofc-hi-fi-speaker-cable/ Various suppliers can make up custom lengths to suit. I’ve used these folks several times… https://www.designacable.com/brand_vandamme

Downsizing: can I get a similar sound for much cheaper?

There are Akurate DSM available from a grand upwards depending on spec and condition. That would act as preamp and streamer! I recently bought an Arcam FMJ C31 preamp for a tape monitor circuit and it’s sweet, especially for under £500!

Downsizing: can I get a similar sound for much cheaper?

Your Selekt is sold? 🙁 If you don’t use a preamp, please make sure you can be certain the volume starts low. I’ve seen too many reports of DACs that output 100% and destroy speakers. That said your ATCs may have a cutout protection, I’m not sure.
