Thinking of upgrading Hegel H600 for Pass Labs X250.8

That’s a kind offer, but my hearing isn’t what it used to be, so if I changed anything it would be to take my own advice and get the ATC actives, or even KEF LS60 for simplicity. That said, the Sonus fabers sound enjoyable with almost any amp, at least to my aging lugholes! 🙂

Thinking of upgrading Hegel H600 for Pass Labs X250.8

Pass Labs user here, though very much at the modest end of their power amp range. That said, if you read Stereophile and a few other reviews, there is quite a consensus that the simpler design of the XA25 that I own may actually sound better than the beefier models, as long as you don’t need...

    The Nad 3020 Appreciation Society

Ha, thank you for the thought. I already have four amplifiers here, so I can’t really justify another. (Actually, five, as I’d forgotten my old Marantz PM-40SE that I gave to my dad. I’ve got the switch cleaner handy!)

    The Nad 3020 Appreciation Society

I never owned one, but sold dozens, if not hundreds, and I only worked in hifi on Saturdays. Classic pairing was with various iterations of Dual CS-505 belt drive turntable, or the occasional Technics direct drive. AR18 speakers, or Tannoy Mercury were often bundled, though speaker choice was...

A possible demo to replace the Leema

Ever since I read this review I was interested to try an Exposure amp in my system. https://www.hifinews.com/content/exposure-3510-integrated-amplifier For no reason I can particularly identify, I feel less enthusiastic about the Roksan. However, I liked the Caspian CD player which my dealer...

Question What's your next HiFi purchase?

You already did, twice in fact. https://forums.whathifi.com/threads/retro-mission-780ise-and-replacements.137609/#post-1358471

    Retro Mission 780iSE and replacements

Welcome to the forum. I’ve still got some 760i from the mid-1990s and they’re a fun listen. It’s too far back for me to remember but if you do a bit of homework you might find another pair of used Missions that you’d like - without breaking the bank. Then you can swap between them...

    Cyrus 80 Full Width

That didn’t stop Naim! I’m sure you can add PS to their wider boxes. Conversely Linn seemed to be unsure what size to be, and many of their items are around 3/4 or 7/8 width like my Akurate. It looks great but doesn’t match anything else, which might be the point!

Integrated Amplifiers For Revival Atalante 3

Reading up about the speakers, they seem to recommend them for rooms of 15m2 upwards, so you may need care in getting the best from them. I tend to prefer money to go on the amp as much as the speakers, so I might have plumped for KEF R3 or Wharfedale Super Lintons instead of the Atalante 3 but...

    Eversolo goes nuts

Fair point, but what exactly is a ‘streaming transport’ aside from being a DAC-less streamer? I find these components less obvious that, say, a CD player.

    Things I hate about Hifi

Well then we clearly have very different perceptions of realistic home listening. 🙂

    Eversolo goes nuts

Indeed - when I say streaming I usually mean both from (say) a Tidal or Qobuz sub as well as a NAS or suchlike, and possibly a USB drive. However, this shows how garbled the various terminologies have become!

    Things I hate about Hifi

I guess there’s not much of a demand for such things, though there are quite a few ‘steaming speakers’ like the KEF LS60 or LS50 Wireless, that only need an app and a smart phone to operate them. For example… https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/kef-ls50-wireless-ii

    Eversolo goes nuts

You’re not wrong. It’s the trendy name for a streamer with no built-in DAC. Analogous to CD transport that also needs a DAC added. As you probably recall, I’m not a great fan of DAC ‘rolling’ , as I’ve found that most manufacturers of CD players or streamers have a fair idea of what sort of DAC...
