    Turntable, around £4k

If I had £4k to drop on a turntable I would most definitely look at an LP12. Not a new one but there are a lot of very good independent Linn dealers our there that specialise in making up decks from parts left from over from owners who have upgraded over the years. They can basically put a deck...

    Ears - Hearing

Been to plenty of very loud gigs in the 80's-90's Nirvana; Mudhoney; The Cramps; Zodiac Mindwarp (that was REALLY LOUD!); Wonderstuff etc. Had one experience where my hearing was gone after a gig and I couldn't hear a lovely girl that was trying to chat me up! Gutted!! The hearing loss was only...

Speakers recommendation for Naim Nait 3 / Rega Planar 2

Get a new belt for sure. They are only £17 for a genuine one or you could get a Thakker one (very good make) for around £9. As a comparison a Linn belt is around £60!! As for speakers, audition if you can. They do vary a lot. They also vary a lot from the store to your home. I'd add Dali...

    Ears - Hearing

Went to a gig last night with a friend who is a professional musician and singer. The gig was very loud. I put wads of cotton wool in my ears, she had special sound attenuating earbuds specially for gigs (which she didn't use!) The sound was very loud even with the cotton wool and to me it was...

    The 10% cable spend

    Sort of, but not. https://the-ear.net/review-hardware/tangerine-audio-evenstar-upgrades-lp12/

    The 10% cable spend

This is all getting a bit like 'religion' !!!

    The 10% cable spend

Not cables but as an example there are some people on a discussion group that swear that a weighted plastic triangle placed on top of an LP makes it sound better on some systems with a discernable difference. For £280 I'm not willing to 'give it a go' unless someone comes to my house with one...

    Bright, neutral or smooth?

I'd describe my Marantz as "natural" or "neutral". Sometimes I wish it were a little brighter, but then other times I think if it were brighter than this, it would sound harsh and tiresome. It really depends on the artist, the album, the track, the recording and the media.

    Rega Planar 6/Ania

Sounds like the reviewers play a lot of "word search" games and then bet each other who can fit the most found words into their review. The loser buys lunch etc.

    Turntable Focused System Suggestions Please?

If I was in that position and was after the best turntable for my (large) budget, then the first port of call would be to a company called Cymbiosis. The owner, Peter Swain is a very well respected turntable guru especially in Linn LP12 circles. https://www.cymbiosis.com/ I personally would...

    Question Marantz CD6003 playback problem.

If you are handy with a screwdriver you can get replacement laser units for less than £20. Worth a shot perhaps? There really isn't a lot inside the box.

    Fascinating Stuff

I like the other video in the link of the cigar-smoking guy editing cracks and pops out of tracks from a record recorded onto tape, then marking and splicing. I was unsure what the fragments were later in the clip. Were they the remains of the record that had delaminated?

    Fascinating Stuff

Yes, but there was a discernible difference in the sound!

Knosti Record Cleaner - Upgrade path?

Never had a problem with dust settling on the wet LPs standing in the drying rack TBH. Even if it did it would only be on the surface and i always use my carbon brush before each play. As the drying LPs are vertical I can't see this being a problem. In my experience with the solution I use the...
