    Treble words

Thanks nopiano - interesting article - would be good if all reviewers had read it! Not sure I’ll be asking for the poster - I’m quite nerdy enough already! Looks as though Gray was pretty spot on, though I’ve seen ringing as a positive (really?) and the article gives sweet as a negative. I...

    Streamer/source

Meant to ask Timbola - how are the Twenty5.24s? On my wish list with ProAc D20R (or poss 30R)

    Streamer/source

I bought a Primare NP5 which I’m happy with. But I really chose it as it didn’t have an onboard DAC and I already had a Chord 2Cute - seemed silly to pay for circuitry I wasn’t going to use!

    Vinyl vs digital

Looking forward to the results - though to make a risky prediction I would expect the Gyrodec to blow the digital away as the sources should in a different league as Matthew says. I might try the same thing myself on a classical recording over the next few days - comparing P8/Apheta 3 with...

    Treble words

Making any sense of hifi reviews is a challenge at the best of times, but I wonder if there is a bigger range of words used to describe the high frequency output from speakers than anything else? From a few speaker reviews (OK I probably read too many!) I've seen the following: Forward Shiny...

Can anyone recommend a good vinyl record cleaner?

I’ve bought an Okki Nokki recently - it’s transformed my vinyl listening - would thoroughly recommend if you have the budget.

Ditch vinyl and reduce box count?

I really get the advantage of easy access to lots of albums. But if I want to just pop on some music vinyl is way quicker for me. Turn on the system, put on a record, drop the arm. Or…. Made sure my phone is on the main network not the extender, wait for the streamer to connect, find the...

    Component contribution to sound

Absolutely agree - you can have the most amazing equipment down the line but if the information is not being accurately extracted at source then you will never get it back. Equally cabling - high quality equipment contains high quality wiring - so if you have bad interconnects and cables you...

    Hifi bug has bitten again!

Thanks. Also been having a look at ProAc Response D20R. Smooth top end is important for me as I get tinnitus so speakers with overly bright high frequencies are a problem. Ribbon tweeter might be good I think?

Thanks Dom - lots of food for thought there!

Ditch vinyl and reduce box count?

Even as a vinyl enthusiast I wonder if the vinyl vs CD vs streaming argument is pretty redundant as so much depends on the quality of the equipment. i love my P8/Apheta deck and it knocks my Primare NP5/ Chord 2Qute streaming combo out of the park. But presumably this would be reversed if I...

    Hifi bug has bitten again!

That’s why I like buying used - if you don’t like something you can normally sell it on without losing much.

    Hifi bug has bitten again!

Thats the issue with buying used of course. In the end it’s down to some good research and then hoping for the best! ProAc is a good idea - I’ll do some more reading ….

    Hifi bug has bitten again!

Thanks. I might start by getting the Quad amps serviced and see how they sound. Does anyone have any thoughts about speakers I might consider to replace the ESLs? Probably spending about £1.5k to £2k second hand. cheers

    Hifi bug has bitten again!

Hi - new here! So having avoided it for years the hifi bug has well and truly bitten again. For ages my system was: Garrard 301, SME3012, Dynavector 10x5 Quad 99 pre and monoblocks Quad ESL63s Plus a Primare NP5 and Chord Cutest but I’m not bothered about changing those. The 301 needed work...
