I would go for the Pioneer over Denon as it have more clarity, punch and more controlled bass as compared to Denon. Denon on the other ends seem more laid back and soft round the edge.

It is generally safe to buy a used amp and the risk is pretty low. On top of that you get huge discount as oppose to buying new as the previous owner already take the depreciation for you. Few months down the road if the XS is not your cup of tea, you can simply offload it and don't lose much...

Totally agree, likewise things won't go well with the reverse. Good quality speaker with low powered amp.

Just a thought, why not get a DAC instead. By doing so you can use it for your other streamer and etc?
