    1980's HiFi v 2020's HiFi

Indeed but mine is a CDM9 the last of the single beam swing arm mechanisms. Still with a tray drive wheel which literally falls to bits but you have to take the rough with the smooth. It was all about getting information from a CD - there were no other objectives - and it shows.

    1980's HiFi v 2020's HiFi

Similar experience with my Rotel RDD-980 CD transport. Both the CD52 and the RDD-980 have a single beam swing arm Philips CD mechanism. I don't think they can be beaten.

    1980's HiFi v 2020's HiFi

My Rotel RDD-980 CD transport and matching RDP-980 DAC are stilling going strong and providing wonderful sound. I can only concur that the old Philips CD mechs with single laser are really hard to beat.

2024 could be the year of hi-res wireless audio – but it hinges on two things

I'm really unsure what to say. It's really difficult for me to comment on this article without seeming adverse, negative or hypercritical. The first point that needs addressing is the furry mammoth lurking in the corner of the room. Hi-Res audio - I'm sort of making an assumption that your...

33 debut products that defined hi-fi history

QUAD has been included for their electrostatic speakers but their debut products were amplifiers. If you have heard some of their old valve amplifiers and preamps you would understand why their reputation was founded on these products and not their speakers. That's not to say that the ESLs...

The CD changer is back – and Yamaha’s new CD-C603 has something I wish mine had in 2005

My very much alive and kicking Arcam MCD is brilliant. It gives many a single disc player a run for it's money. The one thing you can't do, however, is play one disc and load another. Not often I defend WHF, in fact never, but I have to be fair.

iFi Uno is a dinky hi-res DAC that will fit into your Christmas stocking

The Uno's main connection is a USB-C input, Did you mean to say that USB-C is the only input?

In case you are unaware, a perceptible difference in sound, which is what is alleged in this review, can be detected and measured. Some reviews, in other publications, will include charts and measurements to back up an opinion. Your attempt to deride the previous comment with your use of block...

    Your Song/Track of the Day

If you like Bill Withers then this is a must. The other must is that this extended version is listened to in it's entirety. View: https://open.spotify.com/track/01gDLZsi0j5fWC28FLPNO8?si=89dbdcaad16344a9 View...

MQA has been saved from administration

It's all kicking off again. MQA seems a very abrasive set of initials. I'm not going to add fuel to the fire by giving my opinion on the MQA format. If you're happy with it then I'm happy for you. If you don't like it then simply don't use it. All I will add is that after all the furore...

PMC's superb Prodigy 1 illustrate the danger of perceived value

'You don't judge a book by the cover' verbosely expanded to just under 900 words.

Strange to write this review and not mention Andrew Jones.
