    what would you do?

Purchased the Melco N1s38 reference streamer / server and am very pleased with its performance compared to other streamers I have owned (Aurender N10/N20, Melco N1HA40 and Melco N1ZH60). Very happy with the Naim Fraim Lite too both aesthetically and functionally. The Meridian 201Pre is used for...

    Fancy tech purchases

My car cost about £80k. My stereo cost about £120k. I am still using an iPhone from 2018. The car was a bit of a vanity purchase and I’ve only done 23,000 km driving in the past 6.5 years . My stereo has been a forever upgrade journey which has brought lots of frustration as well as enjoyment...

    what would you do?

I sold my Rega rp10 last year as I wasn’t really listening to it amidst the demands of a growing family . The sound burger was simply for occasional listening and it’s very small footprint ( the RP 10 comprised 3 boxes ) . The SL7 again is for the convenience that a linear tracking player...

    CDT+DAC or CDP

i speak from my personal experience of owning dacs and players from the likes of meridian, nagra and dcs. a panasonic blu ray sending redbook cds into my dcs bartok sounded excellent and not far off my meridian 808v6. and whilst the vivaldi dac and project rs2 cd transport gave the best results...

    CDT+DAC or CDP

a standalone transport into a dac will generally offer better sound quality but then you have to factor in the extra shelf space, cables, power chords etc.

    what would you do?

i have a new dac/streamer - the WiiM - connected to my CH Precision A1.5 power amp / Stenheim Alumine 3 speakers. A mismatch in size, weight and price - 100g v 188kg, £80 v £65,000 but fun all the same, the UI is excellent. and sound not bad. wow

What is it meant when audiophiles say some hi-fi products are just lifestyle products?

it seems to me the the term lifestyle product was lazily coined by journalists . the likes of Naim introduce one box solutions for the primary reason these offerings are a good way to be exposed to the brand which may lead to further purchases of the brand, Personally I bought a meridian f80 in...

Question Is expensive hifi worth it today?

years ago, Amir from ASR was very pal-ly with the mainsteam hifi journalits on thw west coast. He often wrote about how great their high end systems were. Something obviously turned sour or he saw a gap in the media market to exploit. All he seems to do now is denigrate high end audio and...

    Any disappointments or regrets?

recent regrets - selling my Nakamichi Dragon cassette deck and B&W 805S speakers when I did not really have to lingering regrets - selling my Sennheiser PX100s headphones more than 15 years ago.

    what would you do?

the meridian 808 dac/cd player remains a fine machine - big bold soundstage, deep bass and not in the least fatiguing. Where the bartok improved matters was resolution, better flow and transience. when bartok 2.0 firmware was released it went one better - bigger, deeper soundstage , more...
