    Recommendations on headphone amp?

I think the Headphone section is the best place for this, rather than the main Hi Fi section. Hope I'm right. Have a Leema Antila IIs CD player and a Chord 2650 amp. The amp doesn't have a headphone socket, so I need to buy a headphone amp and hook it up to the Chord via the tape outputs. My...

Are balanced XLR cables better, and if so is it worth spending a fortune on them?

Thanks all for the comments. And CnoEvil thanks for the Atlas link: it's helped shed a little bit of light. I think my conclusion is that balanced XLRs maybe aren't the night and day difference you read in some places, or at least they may be for some equipment, but it isn't a universal rule...

Are balanced XLR cables better, and if so is it worth spending a fortune on them?

I posted recently on the topic of speakers. Now it's on XLR cables. I've looked at a number of forum conversations, and I'm confused. I have a Leema Antila IIs (which has balanced outputs) and a Chord 2650 amp (which has balanced inputs). A lot of what I've read on the Net suggests that...

Kef Reference 2.2 (Two Two) speakers: any good?

Many thanks for both your comments. As much as I like the sound signature of the ATC SCM11s, I believe the ATC SCM 40s sell for around £2500, which really is out of my price range. So I guess I have to offset the likely price of the 2.2s (around £500-600) against the price for current speakers...

Kef Reference 2.2 (Two Two) speakers: any good?

Many thanks. I've seen previous posts where you speak highly of the 4.2s: does that extend to the 2.2s? Do they compare well to current speakers in the £1500-£2200 range (which is what I was looking at before my budget was blown on other things)? I had been thinking of demo-ing new speakers...

Kef Reference 2.2 (Two Two) speakers: any good?

I have posted here previously, looking for advice on speakers to partner my Leema Antila IIs CD player, and Chord 2650 amplifier. I had some very good advice, unfortunately due to the central heating system packing up my budget is now a bit diminished. The speakers I'm looking to replace are...

Best speakers for Leema Antila and Chord CPM 2650?

I posted here a few weeks ago, when I was thinking about upgrading my Cyrus 8 system. In the end I splashed the cash a bit, and have bought a Leema Antila IIs CD player, and a Chord CPM 2650 integrated amp. I'll still be using my iPod (lossless files) via an Onkyo dock and Arcam rDAC. My...

Cyrus 8 system best upgrade for up to £1000

Thanks for your thoughts. Do you have views on pre and power combinations which I should look out for secondhand? I think a brand new Cyrus pre / power combination will be out of budget, even if I sell my 8vs2. I suppose there may be Cyrus ones on eBay, I'll have to have a look.

Cyrus 8 system best upgrade for up to £1000

Thanks for the feedback. At the moment I think bi amping with an 8 power amp might be the way to go. One final question, though. A hi fi shop has a Krell integrated amp, the KAV 300il, which is in the right price range. All I know about Krell is that they make ultra high end gear, and according...

Cyrus 8 system best upgrade for up to £1000

Thanks for the advice, I hadn't thought of that. Apologies if this is a really dumb question, but you're proposing that I buy just one power amp which will drive one speaker, and the integrated amp (8vs2) will drive the other speaker? Is that correct? Presumably using two power amps (one per...

Cyrus 8 system best upgrade for up to £1000

I have a Cyrus system, and am looking for the best way to improve it within a budget of £1000 absolute maximum. Any advice would be appreciated. It's a CD8x CD player (I still play CDs), an 8vs2 integrated amp, and Leema Xero speakers (I also have some ATC SCM 11s, but I think I prefer the...

    Recommended custom in ear phones?

Am considering whether to shell out for custom in ear phones, budget up to £600. Does anyone have any experience of these, any recommended brands, etc.? I'm finding it difficult to find reviews on the web. Possible manufacturers appear to include ACS, Sleek Audio, Unique Melody, 1964 Ears, JH...

ACS T Series custom earphones: worth the cash?

Previously on this forum I sought advice on a pair of closed back phones to listen to my iPod while travelling on the train (Apple Lossless files). This is the bulk of my listening time, although I sometimes have time in the evenings to listen to my Cyrus 8-based system. Music-wise I'll...

Best closed back phones for iPod on the move

Would welcome advice on a good pair of closed back phones to listen to my iPod while travelling on the train. This will be the bulk of my listening time. However, ideally I'd also like to be able to use the same phones with my Cyrus 8-based system at home. I don't know if that causes a...

Shure SE 535 upgrade cables - worth it?

My 2nd post of the day. I bought some SE 535s to listen to my iPod while on the move, and they're good but not as good as I was expecting. I've experimented with different earbuds and that doesn't seem to be the issue. On eBay a number of companies are offering upgrade cables for the SE 535s...
