    Front height speakers?

Will do, and thanks again for your help, and patience!

    Front height speakers?

As we’ll be decorating the living room anyway, the chancellor has OK’d a pair of CA Minx Min 12’s, to be tried at the side, then tried as front heights (with and without Atmos config), to see which gives best bang for the buck before prepping the fixings before painting. Then I’ll just swap...

    Front height speakers?

Thanks again Messiah. I think suck it and see may well be the best plan. I’m 74. I used to be OK with this stuff, but with today’s complexities and options it’s taken a while to master both a new amp and new TV together. I’ve just removed a Chromecast Audio connected to Optical 2 as I just...

    Front height speakers?

Thanks M. The Dolby guidance is useful. I’m not expecting to be able to achieve Atmos. I’m committed to Minx Min 22’s by the TV and 12’s elsewhere, but cannot see how they could be angled upwards without looking weird. The amp offers various options for the extra 2 channels, including front...

    Front height speakers?

Hi all, after Need to update AVR? I went ahead and did exactly that, with a good deal on a Denon AVR X1800H from Peter Dyson. On a roll, I also replaced the Samsung 49KS8000 with an LG55C3, via another Spring deal from John Lewis, and the front LCR Boston Acoustics sats with Cambridge Audio...

    Need to update AVR?

Thanks Messiah. Been looking at Hyperfi. Their 2800 is B grade stock and whilst the co does well on Trustpilot, other online reviews are mixed. I’ve bought from Peter Tyson before and their 1800 comes with a 2yr warranty. Got till Friday to decide. Cheers.

    Need to update AVR?

Had a meeting of the Committee, and might be able to draw a line under this soon. TV/speaker upgrades can wait for now but meanwhile can upgrade the amp, to a standard consistent with the rest of the kit now and in future, ie. well rated/budget. Found last yrs but new Denon AVR X1800 7.2 on...

    Need to update AVR?

HD what? 😂 Every day a school day here. But yes. If I could split audio and video in the way I can with the Sony UHD BP player I’d have a solution. Better yet, if Sony permitted the Apple app, I’d be good to go. Will have a think. New, Amazon want thick end of £300 for a whistles and bells...

    Need to update AVR?

Thanks Messiah. I think you’ve nailed it. The TV can’t hand back more than DD audio via ARC (even if I reconnected an HDMI cable), and the AVR can’t support 4k passthrough. For now I’d be content to use the TV as a monitor for 4k video, and update the amp. When used via BT’s smart hubs their TV...

    Need to update AVR?

Hi all After years of Google Nexus/Pixel phones, we’ve both just switched to Apple iPhones, and are enjoying the free 3 months of Apple TV+ (Ted Lasso, Masters of the Air, Slow Horses etc). But I can’t take advantage of the sound quality they supply. Current kit is a 4K Samsung 49KS8000, 4K...

Netflix to lower streaming quality in Europe to reduce internet traffic

I agree. I don't think this is a good look for them. I'm prepared to do my bit but so should they. And I've read they are charged for the bandwidth so they'll see a saving AND keep *their* prices unaltered. I realise they are dominant but haven't seen any similar announcement from any other...

Netflix to lower streaming quality in Europe to reduce internet traffic

Had a major fall out with them. I'm in the UK, on their 4K/4 screens plan. Seeing reports of "still 4K, but PQ may suffer" (🤔) I went on their Live Chat. When I asked about rebates t'lass got all shirty and said I'd still got the 4 screens element so what was I bothered about and I "couldn't opt...

    Chromecast vs Chromecast for Music?

I use both. In fact, all 3 - CC Ultra, CC, and CC Audio. The latter I use to add streaming to my older AV amp, without needing to involve the TV.

    Tidal

Just to clarify, Tidal now supports Android Auto.
