And yet it’s on iPlayer only, restricting its availability even further. iPlayer is 5% of our viewing, broadcast abt 15%, the rest split across Netflix, Prime, Now, and Apple TV+. Mainstream it’s not.

In my suite of streaming sources only iPlayer uses HLG.

But the TV still has to be compatible. My last 4k Samsung wasn’t.

I think that’s exactly how iPlayer does it. I never saw the UHD banner in our old TV, even tho it was a 4k set.

What chance have we got if the info we’re fed is duff? Try iPlayer and look for/search on UHD. Can you see any listed? Strike or Asia are 2.

This is an extract from the Reddit link above, admittedly a second hand post of what LG supposedly has said. The lack of HLG support would bother me, as that’s what the BBC use for their UHD listings on iPlayer.

We had the same debate over a special JL deal on the LG C3 early this year, knowing the C4 was due shortly after. In the end, went for it, and enjoy the PQ and styling c/w a previous Samsung we’d had. The 55C4 is rated a big improvement on the 55C3 but on launch it was 70% more than we’d just...

Actually, LG’s own response ⬆️ sets it out nicely. Of course, if you don’t value the updated, improved features, it makes total sense to buy the cheaper one.

But you’re willing to buy the possibly inferior product without knowing exactly what you’ve bought? OK. It’s always possible that LG, one of the world’s biggest TV makers, got their UK £££ numbers wrong by getting confused over relative specs and their values. Anything’s possible.

Good result. Our LG remote is fine after a yr tho the trackball thing drives me crazy. As does WebOS. The only remotes I’ve ever had die have been Samsungs.
