The difference between hype and reality

And to think when car CD players came out I wondered how they'd manage to stop the laser skipping, but how did they stop that needle skipping???

The difference between hype and reality

I used to be a right PIA returning crackly ,warped, and scratchy records for replacements, which were equally bad, then I discovered Japanese vinyl in a local record shop, that were always far superior to the records that we had to endure. Boy did I love CD when it came out, no more snap...

    Who has the ugliest Turntable?

I've only owned 2 turntables a Sony that I can't remember the model number of, and my current Heybrook TT2 At one point I thought my Heybrook was a bit ugly esp with that industrial sized on off rocker switch, but now it looks kinda vintage cool, and will be with me to the grave ! As an aside I...

    Moving to digital streaming

Another hardware option is actually Apple TV, if you are an Apple user and hooked on iTunes. You need to connect to Tv to see what you are doing and can also connect via optical cable to your amp if it has such a connection. Sometimes in life there are too many choices!

    Moving to digital streaming

Software for ripping can come at zero cost. I've used both foobar and more recently EAC aka Exact Audio Copy for ripping CDs to FLAC. still undecided which is the better of the two. EAC has the nicer interface in my opinion, but both need a bit of tweaking to work well. Foobar needs add ons to...

    Moving to digital streaming

ive been quite happy with my Cambridge audio NP30. Quite a simple affair that can stream from a NAS drive or from an external hard drive connected to the USB socket in the rear. Also does internet radio and Spotify with latest upgrade. Not sure if it's still available or has been superseded by...

Things audiophiles say that make us look like weirdos to normal people

My Amps and speakers had tight fitting plastic plugs that had to be removed with some difficulty (had to screw a drill into them actually and pull) before banana plugs could be inserted. I only knew of this because I actually read a manual ! The one for my Onkyo AV amp. I believe it was in...

Oh yeah done it again! Different spelling this time. Might be easier to rename them to cucumber plugs *acute*

Things audiophiles say that make us look like weirdos to normal people

Yep really. I noticed it first in the instruction manual that came with my AV amp, I've seen it since elsewhere. Of course I had to find out why, being the curious type. The reason is quite simple when you find out. Banna plugs fit quite nicely in those European style mains sockets, so to...

Things audiophiles say that make us look like weirdos to normal people

Actually it still does my head in realising that a paper, kevlar etc, cone moving back and forth can produce sounds that replicate various instruments and the human voice all at the same time. Really how does that work???
