If you can manage to get about 400-600 euros more, either by selling your current amp or speakers you could get a pair of eve audio sc 208s or adam audio ax8s. Both have 8 inch drivers and are active. Give them a try from Thomann.de if you can or if your local pro dealer can let you demo them...

I would sugges the Adam f5, a very good pair of bookshelves, front ported . If not them then the yamaha h5s or h7s are very good but rear ported . ( one of the benefits of studio monitors is the eq adjustments which can help with room induced problems). From Thomann you can get h5 for 340 euros...

Before spending money on a dac I have a couple of suggestions. Try turning the volume of both devices to maximum and using your amp's volume control. I am not sure about your macbook pro but the output of the iphone is quite low, 1volt vs 2volts for most line level sources like cd players...
