    MP3 Gain

You can use MP3Gain (on the sourceforge site) to insert tags in to the MP3s. You can get this to 'normalise' across a number of tracks or the album. I generally found it made things more quiet regardless, but as the tags can be "undone" it was easy to revert back.

    EAC - problem(s)

I also found inconsistencies with EAC across some albums and tracks. I used MP3Tag (which is free) to make the necessary fixes. I also noticed that EAC was a little inconsistent in applying IDv1 and IDv1.3 tags.

    The Multiroom Music Systems Thread

Maybe the lack of responses regarding other systems just shows what a grip Sonos has in this area? Before buying my play:3, I did a bit of research and quick audition of the Jongo range. Here's my thoughts: Good: Good range of speakers from the portable S3 that can be used outside and...

    Network music luddite

Each of the players will connect to your router either via wi-fi or a wired connection. The NAS will also connect to your router (generally wired). Each player will have an 'app' you can download to your phone or PC in order set it up. From there you'll be able to set access to internet radio...

    Hard Drive music through HiFi

Are you talking about connecting the hard drives directly to the "box", or on to the network? The Sonos Connect can do the latter, depending on your budget. Also worth looking at Pure's Jongo A2. This is cheaper than the Sonos, but doesn't support as many file formats. It doesn't 'do'...

    Ripped CDs Quieter??

@BenLaw: My 'ghetto blaster' is an old panasonic stereo and not particularly powerful. The volume just seems higher on this than the Sonos. I have to crank the latter up comparatively more. @chebby: Unfortunately, then Play:3 doesn't have a line in, so can't do the comparision. I do have a...

    Ripped CDs Quieter??

I've been listening to my finally ripped CDs on a Sonos Play:3. They've been ripped as MP3s (VBR V2) and a few as FLAC. I'm not sure if it's the rips or the Sonos, but they seem quieter than the orginal CD. I'm playing the CDs from a separates system and and old 'ghetto blaster'. I'm using...

Warm, musical budget integrated amp. Which?

I have the Denon. I'm no audiophile, but I wouldn't say the sound is warm. I like the sound though. I play mainly dance and indie and the music seems to have a bit of an 'edge' to it compared to my old cambridge audio A3i

    Sonos Play:1 first impressions

It would be good to know in terms of clarity and volume how the two sets would compare - is a stereo pair greater than the some of it's parts or would a single Play:5 still provide better sound quality due to more amps/drivers. Sonos defines the volume of a Play:1 as 'loud', the Play:5 as...

    Sonos Play:1 first impressions

Thanks for the first impressions. Do you have other Sonos units? How does the Play:1 compare? Would be interesting to know how a stereo pair of Play:1s compared to a single Play:5 as the costs would be the same (anyone with spare cash out there care to try??)

    Cheap, good interconnects

Just found myself pressing 'buy' on those Profigold. Always a sucker for a bargain

    Speaker Cable

That's good. I find the cables work better than lengths of spagetti.

    Cheap, good interconnects

But you can get 4 sets of the Profigold for 1 set of the Cambridge Audio. Are they that much better? (BTW, I'm a long time user of CA's Pacific interconnects. They've always seemed good quality for the price-point)

Cables, mains, interconnectors and speaker cables

Think you missed a zero. Those Red Wave cables are £700 per metre! (but only £100 per mere if you buy over three metres - bargain :) ) At that price, I don't think I'll be running any tests.

    Sonos Connect Amp

I think the lack of replies says it all!! If you've already gone down the Sonos route, then you'll need to buy the Sonos products to control them as a single set. The only other option you have is to use a device from another manufacturer (e.g. Pure's A2) to connect up your amp/speakers, but...
