balanced inputs so based on my experience and the massive upgrade balanced offers over unbalanced through headphones I'd suggest trying something like the Fostex HP-A4BL. I've seen it at £400, maybe a little over budget but worth comparing to the Audio-GD...

greed was an extreme term but yes definitely excessive. HMV despite having their financial woes are still a large chain, as David mentioned you'd expect their purchasing power to at least reflect in a competitive price they're asking for from Joe public... independent retailers I can understand...

from what I can see there's only one dealer that sell both Kef and AVI North of the border. I could be wrong though. Bad though that two quality products get a less than stellar write up possibly because of a poor demo by a careless dealer.
